CFFX Kingston

It is no surprise that CFFX Oldies 960 in Kingston, Ontario has applied to convert to FM. However, one part of the application did surprise me.

They wish to keep the current oldies format on FM. Since when did the CRTC allow FM oldies stations?

The format will most likely maintain a slightly different tweak. It may not have the same sound, but still generate the attention of the oldies fan.

I'm guessing they plan to model after the Jack FM in Smiths falls...?

Sad. I enjoy listening to Oldies 960, hopefully this one will be rejected. (kind of doubt it though) Their signal isn't that bad in Ottawa, even downtown it's still ok. I know CKLC in Kinston had applied to go FM, and I think that was approved....now the only AM's left with a local quality signal will the 2 Watertown NY stations at 790 and 1410

How's CFRA down there?

I'm not sure how CFRA sounds in Kingston, since I live just off downtown Ottawa and Haven't been through Kingston in a very long time. If I remember correctly, the signal in Kingston was fairly decent last time I was there.

The signal was sounding ok on the Via rail train while passing through Kingston going toward Ottawa recently.

I go through Kingston 2 or 3 times a year on biz travel. CFRA puts a respectable....but unspectacular....signal into Kingston.

Also, the 960 signal out of Kingston has good reach, but IMHO, the quality of the audio is awful.
