CFL on U.S. TV?

CFL is carried locally in Little Rock by KYPX-CA 20, the former "PAX" affiliate.

About as exciting as watching paint dry, and I thought NASCAR had gone overkill on logos. BTW, KYPX is not a A1 affli, but an independent station "RTN: Retro Television Network". And the halftime show is the actual CBC one (with the Canadian Tire logo on the desk).

And I thought Memphis was the hotbed of second-rate pro football.

Memphis Southmen WFL (1974)
Memphis Showboats USFL (1982?-83)
Memphis MadDogs CFL (1995)

And Memphis was the way-station for the ex-Houston Oilers for one season (1997), since Nashville didn't even have its stadium ready. With that underwhelming response, the "Oilers" spent their last season playing at Vanderbuilt Stadium in Nashville.

and last and maybe least: Memphis Maniax XFL (2001)

I lived in the Baltimore TV market in 1995. Their media outlets always referred to them as the Stallions. Their merchandise said Stallions. FWIW...

Thanks studiotwenty. That IMO confirms that they were the Stallions during That Championship Season. I remember watching a game or two...

They used the Colts band, which Irsay forgot when he went west, and which the Stals left behind when they became the Als, to be taken up by the Ravens and renamed "Baltimore's Marching Ravens" (I don't care for that name, but that's another board.)

I have seen the CFL on MSG.
It's TSN coverage.<P ID="signature">______________

Hi everyone:

I think it's a GREAT alternative to the NFL IMO.

NFL Network wouldn't even carry the Arena Football League (which 49% of NFL owners own a piece of), much less the CFL or ANY other professional league except NFL Europe, which is kinda POINTLESS to begin with considering the games are A). In Europe and B). Probably aren't even carried LIVE to begin with *because* of A).

Here in Denver, you can generally find the CFL on Altitude Sports & Entertainment (Comcast cable channel 25 in Denver), though since Comcast started carrying Altitude only last October (the night of the Nuggets season opener no less!), I can't say as to whether or not they carry the CFL throughout the whole season (perhaps someone who gets Altitude via DISH Network can verify this?).

As for coverage via FOX, I saw a listing for it on Fox College Sports Atlantic (at least I *think* it was Atlantic as the game I think was Ottawa vs. Saskatchewan), which I thought was rather peculiar especially since the CFL isn't even College Football to begin with.

As for the possibility of Viacom carrying the CFL on its properties, one would think they would use a combination of UPN (on weekends during the day) and SpikeTV (on Sunday and/or Monday Night(s)).

Other alternatives would be NBC Universal's USA Network or (maybe) Time-Warner's TNT Sports (But since the latter uses announcers from CBS - namely Kevin Harlan - such carriage is unlikely).

I too have a hard time cozying up to Baseball because A). The Rockies SUCK BALLS and B). The greedy M-F-N players are out of control and as a result either get their kicks out of assaulting news photographers (not that I like someone sticking a mic and a camera in my face either) or are hopelessly addicted to steroids (You don't *honestly* believe the PROPAGANDA CRAPOLA out of the Giants organization saying that Barry Bonds *really* has a season-ending "knee injury", do you?).

At this point, I'd MUCH rather watch AAA baseball out of Colorado Springs (some of the Sky Sox PCL games are on Altitude) than to watch the SORRY-ASSED PU**IES called the Colorado Rockies as AT LEAST THOSE GUYS ARE CLEAN.

Now that the Arena League season has ended, I wouldn't mind seeing some CFL action myself. :)

Just my (blunt) opinion :)

Cheers for now :)

Hi everyone:

This might explain how the CFL wound up on the FOX College Sports Atlantic schedule then. If it's a regular thing, I have but two things to say.

A). GOOD FOR THEM
B). ITS ABOUT TIME, DONTCHA THINK FOX???? :) *LOL!*

Cheers for now :)

Time For ESPN World?

Speaking of ESPN for just a bit....

Is it just me or is it time for ESPN to launch a World channel (or at least a soccer channel) focusing on LIVE sporting events (at least soccer) from other countries like FOX Sports World (now FOX Soccer Channel) currently does?

Thoughts anyone?

Cheers for now :)

In 2002 I watched the Grey Cup game on Fox Sports World (CBC feed I believe) from Edmonton, part of DirecTV's free sample of their Total Sports package (or whatever it's called) that weekend. The Montreal Alouettes (formerly the Baltimore Stallions as I have mentioned elsewhere on this thread) won. The CFL seems to pull out almost as many stops at Grey Cup halftime as does the NFL with Super Bowl halftime. I believe Shania Twain sang at the 2002 Grey Cup halftime.
