CFNY: The Spirit of Radio documentary

In 1976, CFNY launched in a small suburban house just north of Toronto and went on to become one of the most influential Alternative radio stations in the world.

The long-awaited documentary was reportedly 90 minutes long before it was edited down to a 60-minute feature to fit into the schedule of Canadian public broadcaster TVO. That version airs in Canada today, and is available now on YouTube. But take note -- it's geoblocked.

You need to either be in Canada or use a VPN set to a Canadian IP address to watch it on YouTube. It's worth the effort.

Former CFNY staffer Ivar Hamilton has created a Spotify playlist of songs that defined the Spirit of Radio era and were played on the station between 1977 and 1988, the period that the documentary is primarily focused on.
