Actually, I beleive it's about doing things cheaper. They'll most likely relaunch with a very similar format, but with less local feel...OR they may increase local with nobodies willing to work for alot less.

The move to hire nobodies would be smart as that would help *some* get just the right amount of experience to eventually be good enough for 640 Toronto.

The website looks the same right now, but there's a green italicized AM980 logo visible. Looks a bit like the logo they had from 2000-2002, with no mention of CFPL. Also includes the slogan "Non stop news in the AM and PM". Sounds like it might be like Kitchener's 570News, which is owned by Rogers.

I'll take a listen later on, see what's different, if anything.

The new format is all-news from 5:30-10 AM, and 3-7 PM, with Focus 980 (John Wilson), Leafs Lunch, and Charles Adler sandwiched in between the news wheels.

As a poster on another board put it, the new format is like a jolt of caffeine in the morning. They are trying to look like 680 News but at the London level, where unlike Toronto the 401 skirts the city and there is no intra city expressway. Also, they say they have the only meterologist on London radio. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I don't have a problem getting a weather report from someone else reading a copy from Environment Canada.

It's too fast-paced, and they are going to have a tough time attracting listeners who are used to the likes of Rich & Elaine and Tucker, Taz & Sarah on the FM music stations, which have much higher morning ratings. On the plus side, it is a good news option for those who don't need as much sports analysis offered by rival CJBK, and it's much better than the old London Mornings show. I couldn't stand Joe Duchense's voice and constant laughter. They have a good voice in Lorenna Dickson.

And it sure beats watching A-Channel Morning, with its constant promotional segments and watered-down news coverage that includes Windsor.
