Ch 14 tower disassembly?

I noticed yesterday the Ch14 tower has been almost completely disassembled. There is at best 200 feet of it standing.

The tower was only slightly shorter then the Ch 50 tower just a few feet away before they took most of it down.

I also see Comcast will be adding Ch 14 to the line up in a couple weeks.

It is Digital only.. It was on the air. I don't know if it is presently but my guess would be no. I will check this morning. I could barely get a lock on it in Midtown a few weeks ago as the signal was very weak.

I checked their applications. There is nothing on-file about a transmitter move.

They are moving from channel 14 to channel 23; perhaps this is part of the process. But, the application does state that WTWV will be on the same tower under the new license, so I can't figure why they would deconstruct the tower. They will only be 22 kW, mere flea-power on UHF. The LPTVs in Bartlett run much more.

Comcast has to add them if WTWV requests must-carry.

I got a letter from Comcast stating they would begin carrying Ch 14 ON cable Ch 14 eff. May 22...on the extended basic cable package.

didnt this tower go up less than a year ago? was something wrong with it? doesnt make sense to take it down so soon.

The prevailing gossip that I heard indicated "structural failure" in one of the lower sections. It took a while to find someone willing to climb it to start disassembling!

I remember back in August we briefly discussed the number of guy's and strength of the tower. (even brought up the ch50 tower having many more guys than usual)

Seems that the tower is on take two, so to speak. Going back up rapidly...

Just wondering if the CH14 guys are intermeshed with CH50's? Can't believe that Bartlett would let that happen. If 14 had collapsed, it might have well taken 50 with it. Imagine the mess, not to mention danger, on Brother Blvd. as the guys fell from the CH50 tower.

This scenario happened in GA a few years ago after an accident on a "neighbor" tower...

It's not uncommon to have inter-meshed tower guys at a crowded common site. It also doesn't necessarily mean one tower failure causes another. You'd prefer to have your stick isolated from others, but it doesn't always work out that way.
