Ch 5 will/Ch 4 may end wall-to-wall marathon coverage

"WCVB-TV will yank its wall-to-wall coverage of the Boston Marathon next year, ending a decades-long relationship with the event, a station official said yesterday."

And WBZ/4 may also not do wall-to-wall coverage. Both stations will do some coverage but stations have
to pay between $150K and $180K to the B.A.A. to cover the race live

who cares?! more people watch nesn and listen on radio for sox in boston than watch the marathon on ch.4,ch.5 and cable(oln) or listen on 1030.

ch.5 did the right thing. and ch.4 will also do the right thing when they announce no wire to wire coverage any day now.

I certainly could care less about the marathon and the likes of Howie have complained, and rightly so, how tough it is to get around town on that day ("not EVERYONE has the day off! Can't they have it on a Sunday?"). But it should be interesting to see how people who DO like the marathon react to this news. And I was surprised it
cost them THAT much to do it (B.A.A. fee)...so I guess the soap operas, etc., get them more ad money or people aren't watching the Marathon as much as they used to.

If they WERE to move it to sunday they would most likely get a BROADCAST Network deal.

Perhaps this could be something for ch 38 to do even if only to simulcast Verses's coverage.

B.A.A. refuses move to Sunday but finally agreed to 10am start because of so many injuries related to the heat. Most runners prefer cooler temps. I believe they'll start at 10am next year. (Racoon, since you have so much free time maybe you shoud check into it). It works better for NECN, 4,5 and 7. They can have their star anchors in Hopkinton at 10am and then do a Rosie Ruiz and drive them back to the finish line in Copley. The men's and women's winners should be crossing the finish line during Noon newscasts. And that's the most-watched part of the race anyway. So everyone wins. Hey, that's sure beats the old days when 2 used to tape the whole race, edit it and show it at night.

The Sox are talking about moving the Patriots game to 2pm so that people can watch the race and then head down to the ballbark. Hopefully, they will pre-empt your boy Howie on WRKO and that's a good thing, too.

>>maybe you shoud check into it

no, I could barely run (walk maybe) 2.6 miles let alone 26...

I would rather have the Sox pre-empt Howie than the Celts (a couple times, lost last half hr of his
show due to that and couldn't pick up WCRN well at work)
