WCETV which is CCTV from Beijing, China. All newscasts and shows are in English, much along the lines of what C.R.I. is doing on AM 1520 and 1540. I watched an hour or so of the programming yesterday and I must say, their news broadcasts are a bit more graphic than what is typical of our standard newscast.

CCTV-9 had been carried on Time Warner Cable here in Houston, but was dropped when Comcast took over the system in 2008. This at least gives OTA capable viewers another option.

U-Verse has CCTV-9 on their Houston service.

Chinese production values on their international TV and radio services have become quite slick in recent years, and they are moving to new distribution methods, particularly as shortwave fades (pun intended?) into broadcast history.

It is probably not a coincidence that Directv also carried CCTV-9 and dropped it shortly after the 2008 Beijing Olympics. CCTV probably had leased the slot on cable and satellite to promote China in advance of the games.
