Ch:6 Presidential visit coverage...

... was dumb.
To mention over and over again that the visit caused traffic problems was just stating the obvious. However WLNE's over-doing it seemed a silly attempt to build resentment over it. Yes motorcades do disrupt things a bit.

Domenico Modugno was particularly incensed and while I applaud the try to be Fox-news like, this was just awkward.

I don't quite understand the appeal of watching cars drive down the road. Motorcade or not it's just boring. WPRI showed live shots of people standing by the side of the road as they waited for the Motorcade to drive by. Think about this for a second. People who actually made plans to stand on a sidewalk for hours so they could watch the Presidents car wiz by.
All I could say while watching this was "Look at all those people with no lives".
People are way to star struck or something. I don't get it. They weren't even getting to see the president. They stood there to stare at TRAFFIC!

And, then, there are the people with THREE television sets on (or flipping back and forth) to watch the coverage of people watching the President wiz by... :D

Kind of reminds me of the Shakespeare concept of the "play within in the play".

I knew the president was coming. I was thinking to myself.... "that's nice. Hope he has a good day here".

But I didn't even think to turn on a TV until the 6 PM News. I was honestly surprised to see them covering the Presidential traffic when I did. I just wasn't thinking *traffic* was a big deal. That's when I saw all the empty heads standing by the side of the road waiting for him.

I absolutely agree with you, as I usually do (except for the Kansas WLNE theme music). Who has time to watch the President's motorcade? I just thought of the joke as I was replying to your post. :D

I heard that WLNE's old theme by Kansas is the Presidents favorite song. So I don't know what you are laughing at. Haha :)

Speaking of ch.6 I noticed that their Thurs. "organized crime figures" story was pretty much a copy of Jim Taricani's on ch:10. I'm not suggesting plagiaism but it is odd that they would do the same narrative the next day unless the cops are doing pr this week for some reason.

The story was done by Matt Stevens who I've never see before dressed in a dapper outfit befitting Chicagoi].

Could very well be...I don't know how popular Kansas is in the great state of Hawaii!! :D

Ah, competition is alive and well in Providence TV news. ::)
