"WRKO talk jock John DePetro is back in the hot seat and fighting for his job after calling gubernatorial candidate Grace Ross a “fat lesbian” on his radio show yesterday. Sources say Julie Kahn, vice president and New England market manager for Entercom, owner of WRKO-AM (680) and WEEI-AM (850), is “furious.”

Not the only outspoken public figure named "John" to get in trouble around here lately...

For the record, other talk hosts have called public figures "fat", ranging from Howie ("Fatboy" nickname for
Ted K) to Al Franken who used the word in a certain bestselling book revolving around the talk host
who competes against him in the noon slot...
 
Okay, maybe not appropriate but he didn't say anything untrue. Is she fat? Yes. Is she a lesbian? Yes. I wouldn't have said that on the air but what he said was fact unlike when he speculated about Amorello's sexual orientation.
 
What can be expected?? On his last broadcast from Rhode Island, he said," I will always be your friend, Jeff. How low can one go. Look at all the info that was not allowed in the investigation. SOO, he is no better than them. Low Lifes hang together.

We all know that a lackey like DePetro is told exactly what to say, when and how.

He is the Kerry Healey of the airwaves, they tell him to jump, he says "How high"?

You really think they are going to fire him for doing his job? Unless it is their way of pushing
him out the door, he's just a good little lapdog that begs, rolls over and gives his paw.

It is just awful, dreadful radio. He should be fired for incompetence, failure to perform, and ripping
off the listeners/advertisers with his inability to do good, proper radio.

Grace Ross says:"I don't think I should say who gets fired or doesn't from a job I have no legal responsibility for. But what I do feel is that the quality of public discourse in this campaign is in the mud pit, rolling around. I would hope that WRKO recognizes the power of the airwaves and doesn't want to contribute to what is essentially negative campaigning."

What if he switched the letters in her name and called her Race Gross? Fat Boy Howie Carr is funny, self-deprecation usually is, but Ms. Ross has some of the best ideas in the campaign. She's like a rock singer from the 60s or 70s with nothing to lose because she's not going to get the platinum album, so she is free
to do her art. DePetro has no art to give, he is just plain awful.

Suspension? Hell no, a real punishment would be to give Grace Ross the airwaves for a month while they are auditioning new hosts. Grace Ross would be a great hostess for 9 am - noon. Too bad the listeners have no say in the Republican vehicle known as Enterscamm.

Casablanca will have a field day!!

i am sure they'll be checking the waiver wire to see if his name shows up around noon today. a big sit-down on guest street this am. i hope the little man is wearing his best asbestos suit.

It would be nice if he got fired, and you never know...as Stephanie Miller's segment Republicans Eating Their Own proves everyday, they help set something up, and when it backfires hugely, they take the action of "How could something like this happen, we musn't tolerate it" and assorted BS.
 
This guy DePetro is low-rent, to say the least. Comments about a person's weight seem to be fair game on Boston's Talk Station (Howie re: Amorello), but the sexuality thing goes beyoond the boundaries. Send him to the purgatory of Providence radio, from whence he cometh.

It's a cheap move by a cheap broadcaster. Remember when 680 had a cadre of talk hosts who you really wanted to hear? Whether it was Jerry Williams or Gene Burns, these were people with not only something to say, but an entertaining way of saying it.

Now, we have Howie Carr, who I dolike listening to, when I get the chance, and ------- that's it.

Meaning Derderian? I think he talked quite a bit about the Station fire during his WHJJ days but of course
100 dead and many more injured is a huge story...

That could be one reason for the suspension, etc.; 'RKO/Entercom paid big money for Sox rights and
expect big ratings in return and they don't want one of their talk hosts to offend the Olde Towne Team(sponsors, listeners, and the FCC are also factors in this). Hire a talk host who can be controversial, all right, but be
aware this kind of thing can happen.

Re: Globe putting "WEEI's" before Ted's name...another inaccuracy, what do you expect.

Papers by the way often refer to talk hosts as "jocks" because it's shorter (in a headline) and snazzier
but they're not really DJs...hey, it's hep jock Cranston Johnny D playing the hits!

From what I've heard Howie, Rush, and Savage do OK, but other time periods...not so much. Not sure
about rival WTKK's numbers--how are Imus, Barnicle, E&B, O'Reilly, Graham, Ingraham, and Severin
doing...btw Brian McGrory of Globe and Michelle McPhee of the Herald filled in for Graham yesterday

Severn says much worse about Hillary and that's part of his popularity.

I walked into a former lesbian bar back in the 1980s; the motorbike gal stopped me at the door and said "You can't come in here."

"I Can't"? "I'm the dude that was in drag in front of Cantones and you were pointing and laughing at me on your motorbike."

She changed her tune with a big hug "COME ON IN!"

(I never EVER get into drag nowadays; it was part of our stage show way back when and it was a hot Sunday afternoon so I thought i'd be a spectacle for ten minutes; kind of like my writings on this board...)

There were about 6-8 women at the bar who looked like lumberjacks...so even I did a doubletake. but I can make that observation as an objective journalist. DePetro never put on the lipstick and isn't part of the club. Just a peek into another world.

Would have LOVED to have seen DePetro make that comment in that nightclub! The sisters would've had a field day with him and torn him to shreds and booted him out on his ass. Big brave man before the microphone.

He's a "man". He's a coward behind a microphone. He abused the microphone and got fired.
He would look at the mic and get P. Envy, no doubt.

That's not a peek into my world, I'm not a lesbian. It's a peek into their world.

My world is much more exciting and you ain't invited Mr. DePetro/Infidel. I certainly know what men look like, and DePetro doesn't qualify.
