Ch-ch-changes at 103.7 The Oasis ABQ?

Hutton didn’t implement the Chill format on the old KLBU 102.9, but rather oversaw its demise after their purchase of the station from Blu Ventures in 2007. Hutton kept the format going for a short while before mutating it.
Yes, didn't it morph into what was described as 'eclectic rhythm-dance'. I believe it was still called Blu 102.9 on air.

I did a lot of listening to the KLBU Chill format via their webstream in the 2003-07 period, and really enjoyed the station. After Hutton bought it the webstream was dropped, but on a 2008 visit To Santa Fe I found the station had changed quite a bit as you described, though still branding as Blu. A complete format change followed not long after that, IIRC.

I'm a fan of Hutton's for KBAC, but have yet to find anything that hits the sweet spot for chill the way KLBU did, and it was a shame that Sam Ferrara and company got booted off of 101.5 for the inferior "Project 101.5."

Archive.org has a nice collection of old Blu 102 airchecks.

Im having doubts about any format change happening. I've been listening for awhile, and haven't heard any on air announcement in regards to that. It's still Smooooth Jazzzz. They had a good ratings book, so maybe a change of mind?

Hard to say what’s going to happen at The Oasis. I always say, when in doubt, bet against a format change, though the Facebook page for the station says it’s “New Mexico's Adult Alternative.”

Good catch! The website at oasis1037.com is down. So, maybe AAA it is. Now, I'm really interested.

The stream is still Smooth Jazz...

They have had that slogan for years. New Mexico's Adult Alternative. They refuse to use the words 'smooth jazz' for obvious reasons (because it would snooze the audience).

Has the website been gone for a long time, or is it recent, do you know? I've never heard Smooth Jazz described like that. For me, the definition of Adult Alternative is something completely different!

After 12 years of smooth jazz in ABQ, I just heard a sweeper tonight on the KOAZ stream saying the Oasis is going away over the air and will be online-only, but they did not give a specific date. I guess it wasn't profitable anymore. What will Don replace it with, I wonder?

A great station. I've taped at least 200 airchecks of the station (including when they were at 95.9 in Santa Fe). I will miss it, but will try to find the exclusive online stream whenever it goes live.
There's still Smooth Jazz in Albuquerque 99.9 HD4 "The Jazz Cafe"
Streaming: https://ice8.securenetsystems.net/KMGGHD4 I'm purchasing two SFN booster systems from Gatesair to give my FM and HD full Albuquerque Coverage, it and the other HD's will be on Alexa in the next two weeks
and Covering South of Albuquerque.

How will a 100 watt fm have full coverage of ABQ?

How will a 100 watt fm have full coverage of ABQ?
I buy the best equipment the industry offers, also we have an advantage with the foothill effect. and with the two new FM/HD SFN boosters designed to fill in the areas with weak signal, its done. I've never rushed into any signal modification, any mod that has been done it did what I wanted it to do. If you live in Albuquerque you would understand. I don't try to compete with other stations I pay for it all myself, I like the technology i'm living my dream having fun and doing good in the community. I'll post my progress

I checked 103.7 tonight and it sounds like the music has changed to what sounds like R&B hits but I'm not entirely sure what the format is.
Some of the songs recently played:
Return of the Mack - Mark Morrison
O-o-h Child - The Five Stairsteps
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
I Still Believe - Mariah Carey
Billie Jean - Micheal Jackson
One In A Million - Aaliyah
Creep - TLC
When The Doves Cry - Prince
One More Try - George Michael
Just The Two of Us - Grover Washington Jr.

The webstream is still playing the smooth jazz format but what is airing locally on 103.7 is different but it is still using "The Oasis" branding.

And that's a straight playlist...30-40 minutes of listening?

This could be an interesting move and get them some new listeners, especially the Latino demographic.
Are Jeff Young and Tony Wise still at the 'new' Oasis? Or did Vanguard let them go?

I'm thankful that WSBZ Fort Walton Beach is still alive and well with smooth jazz. AWESOME station. I'd be saddened to see them go too.

I may have missed a couple songs but that is mostly what played during the 5pm hour. K.M. Richards was the on the air in the afternoon and Blake Williams will be on for "after dark". I think they also called it "The heart and soul of Albuquerque". We'll see where this goes!

The format is now Rhythmic AC, and the Smooth Jazz will continue to be available online.

Blake Williams died in 2017.
Are you sure it isn't Don Davis' prerecorded soundbites at night?

I checked it out last night and it certainly sounds like prerecorded soundbites just saying things like "more music on The Oasis coming next" etc. with no mention of what songs are being played. I'm not sure whose voice it was but it wasn't Don Davis.

I have another list of what played for about 80 minutes straight starting at 4pm.
Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
Angel of Mine - Monica
Deacon Blues - Steely Dan
Never Too Much - Luther Vandross
<Commercial Break>
Water Runs Dry - Boyz II Men
Let's Groove - Earth, Wind & Fire
Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House
Always Be My Baby - Mariah Carey
Where is the Love - Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway
I Can See Clearly Now - Jimmy Cliff
<Commercial Break>
I Wanna Dance With Somebody - Whitney Houston
Baby, Come To Me - Patti Austin and James Ingram
Sweet Love - Anita Baker
Doo Wop (That Thing) - Lauryn Hill
Take Your Time (Do It Right) - The S.O.S. Band
Man In The Mirror - Michael Jackson
Moondance - Van Morrison
Two Occasions - The Deele
<Commercial Break>

The new slogan does appear to be "The Heart and Soul of New Mexico". All of the music does seem to have a Soul/R&B/Pop sound and about all of the songs are from the 1970s-90s so it is entirely a gold-based format. The presentation is not too different from before.

Sounds like they are modeling KTWV a little bit.
I can name at least four of those songs that were on the smooth jazz playlist. That includes the Patti Austin/James Ingram duet. Huge smooth jazz staple. I think even WSBZ spins it.
