Ch-Ch-Changes at The Point in LR

Are they bringing back Beaker Street? ;D

Seriously, looking at their website at the moment, the morning show guys seem to be conspicuous in their absence from the site.

Thanks for the link to the article on Arkansas Business - I had missed that one. It seems the Point has been going through a bit of cost cutting over the past 18 months - first Beaker Street gets cut, then the new general manager gets cut, and now this. Wonder what is really going on?

The Classic rock format has not been the same since Magic 105 changed back in the spring of 2008. The Point has certainly gone through many changes since that time. First, Kevin Clay leaves the Point, then Jennifer and Eric leave the morning show, then Dennis Allen leaves the station, then Beaker Street is dropped, then Sharpe is let go and Mike Kennedy is moved to afternoons. What is the management trying to do with all these changes? I think Ashley King does a good job in the morning, but I can't see management not eventually finding a co-host for her morning show? Here is an interesting question..............do you think having two female DJs in the morning would work? Or would it work better to have a male be her co-host?

Keep in mind that most of those changes were not voluntary by the individuals involved. Most - if not all - were let go for one reason or another - mostly cost cutting I suspect. Jennifer and Eric, Dennis Allen, and Beaker Street were definitely cost cutting. Don't know for sure about the other two.

If The Point is dealing with a financial situation, I'll be surprised of they add a co-host in the mornings anytime soon. I don't see two females in the morning working unless they are trying to attract predominently female listeners. I think you would lose the males and teenagers. If they add anyone, I think it will be a male.

I still wonder from time to time if a format change is in the future. Even though they are the only classic rock station in town, if the format is not generating advertising dollars, they might try something else.

I don't see any major changes, since The Point is the "only game in town" and Classic Rock by its sheer built-in audience (boomers and rural rock listeners) will coast along for another decade. Its rock comfort food, and not subject to the fickle changes in trends as an Indie Rock station (which there are none in Little Rock) would endure. But like the audience for previously popular Standards, and Oldies formats, the Classic Rock listeners are aging and will in the long-term age out of certain advertising demos.

Valid point about the aging of baby boomers and the fact that the classic rock format will run its course. Personally, I think it already has for the most part since the same 200- 300 songs seem to get played over and over and over......

From my viewpoint, I think if the Point were to change formats, the likely format would be Adult Contempary or an Adult CHR to compete against B98.5. You would have a more sought after audience in females 25-54 rather than the aging classic rock that is getting smaller and smaller. Not to mention that you fill a huge void left by the format flip of 106.3 to a Hispanic music. Again it's just a thought and opinion of what could work for 94.1.

Was 94.1 AC back in the 90's and went by "K-LITE 94?

KHLT "K-Lite 94.1" launched in the mid to late-80's and became KKPT "94.1 The Point" in the summer of '94.

Well folks, more changes going on at the Point. According to their promos, they have a "new" morning show that will debut next Monday at 6 am. Strangely enough, Ashley King was not on this morning, however, she was on live with Roger Scott as they were previewing the Journey concert this evening. Could this "new" morning show be Ashley King and Roger Scott in the mornings? I find it a bit odd that a morning DJ who was not being replaced, but is not on air til her "new" morning show debuts, if this indeed is all true? The Point management sure can't seem to leave anything be long enough. Thoughts?

Folks who have worked in the Little Rock market for any length of time will tell you those stations are the Jonnson family's 'toy trains'.
