Robyn Walensky was let go this morning from the station, little birdie tells me that they may be interested in Val Bracy over at Fox 8. Could this be to try and lure some of Monica Pierre's listeners over at WWL? Who knows, will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks.

And already off the web site. Either Dick Lewis liked what he heard when Castner was on his own during his WJBO tryout or let's save some money. Who knows?

Putting a token women or minority on the morning show isn't going to help against WWL, and Val Bracy isn't a big enough name to draw.

Now, if they could get rid of Castner and Osterlind and hire some people who know how to pronounce Louisiana names and have a clue about what we care about, that will be an improvement.

Castner and Walensky had become an annoying morning time talk show. I prefer shows where the host believes what they're saying but Castner and Walensky came across as flaming liberals pretending to be conservatives so they could have a radio job. If Castner and Walensky were conservative as they are/pretended to be why did each of them take opposite sides on a issue they were discussing on their show? Shouldn't both of them have been on the same side? If WRNO reads this my suggestion is to hire radio host with conviction behind what they're saying. Perhaps that's why guys like Rush, Beck and Hannity are where they're at.

Do you think they will get rid of Michael Castner. I am glad they got rid of Robyn, she was too argumentative and turned everything back to herself, but I like Castner. I agree with the other post, Osterlind grows on you. I think he is very funny and has completely pegged the politicos of new orleans and does not cut them any slack.

Talkshowjunkie, you're in the small minority. Listen to Osterlind's show. Too much interaction with the producer/newsperson and traffic because he has no callers (read no audience).

If you think he has an audience, why would he waste so much time singing? It's a talk show, not karaoke.

Osterlind does no show prep, just reads whatever he can from the internet. Doesn't matter if it fits or not. He is terrible on the air.

I listen because it's talk, but I shake my head everyday thinking "What a waste".

I actually think Castner sounded halfway decent when he was on WJBO by himself. Much better than Condon, Jim Brown, and anyone else they put up. Maybe it was a test to see how he would sound without Wallensky? Who knows what lurks in the pea-sized brains of Dickie Lewis, Kramer and Philips?

nolaradiobuff, I didn't think about it like that. I suppose you are right concerning all the fluff he adds to his program is because he has no callers. I only get to listen to his program for a very short period of time if at all on my way home and I just thought it was because it was the end of program that he was adding all of that "fluff". It could be that he has no following. Thanks for pointing that out. Again I hope they keep Castner, although with Robyn gone I don't know how good the program will be without his sarcasm and mocking of her egomanicalism. That was the most enjoyable part of the morning show. I could not stand Robyn == anything that was discussed, she always turned the show back to herself, no matter what the topic was ad nauseum. I am so very glad she is gone. I enjoyed the show with Castner and Val Bracy, but of course I only get to listen for about forty minutes or so beginning at about 06:15.

So bring over someone who does news that nobody watches? Make sense. So if that's the case, what are they trying to do? Pick up some black listeners? The Monica lady sounds better than that Mr. Bob and probably had a following from her previous job. Team him up with Sbob Michel and he can be the laugh track.

He has no clue but at least Robin seemed to back what she said. And him "flaming" liberal, like on the lines of the weather guy that use to work on tv in New Orleans?

IMO - I think that talk radio hosts need to have something else going on in their lives, most of the WWL folks have that. When radio becomes your only job or focus I think you become isolated and less apt to really engage your listeners in the talk format. A perfect example would be the folks that "fill in" for WWL hosts. Rob Couhig (sp?) does an excellent job, in that respect.


Also....

I don't think Robin was a "token" and I don't think anyone would say that Monica is either. Unless you've been there, you really can't understand how hard it is for women to break out of that stereotypical role as a foil or a laugh track to a male partner. Part of it is us and in no small measure, the men we work with.

I think Stacy Brady (92.3) does an excellent job in maintaining her own personality and taking the lead on her show - and God knows how hard that can be with her "partner."

I know it seems simple - but maybe women should be made to run the board during shows? I think pushing the buttons does change who takes the lead in two person shows... I'll have to give it try.

If you're a woman on a show, without a "producer"/"board op" (I've never had a board op on a show..) ... do yourself a favor and LEARN TO RUN THE BOARD. It's definitely an asset...
