Ch-Ch-Changes in San Luis Obispo

It seemed, at first blush, a relief to see that Clear Channel had made a deal (for about $20-million) to sell its San Luis Obispo & Santa Maria cluster to El Dorado Broadcasting / Frontier Capital Partners of Los Angeles.

El Dorado started business today (Nov. 30) and immediately walked in the door .. fired KVEC's News Director, the morning news anchor, the FM side program director and the general manager quit ... immediately.

Replacing morning news, a heritage of 7 decades? Laura Ingraham.

20 hours a day syndicated. Only one local talk show, 3-7 p.m.

Hometown radio at it's best.

See ya, Clear Channel.

Joe- I'll admit that I'm saddened by all of this. It's one thing that I work for the competition, but it's another thing that the listeners lose across the board. Let's face it, KVEC's heritage and leadership of the market is based on having an anchor of a morning show for the last 70 years. Now a network lightweight like Laura Ingraham will not carry a ratings or revenue candle to the fact that KVEC meant something. Yes I'm a ratings and revenue kinda guy and KVEC did carry its own until Friday.

Now as a competitor, I'm looking to fill the void. Stay tuned.

Looks as if El Dorado realized that they were disemboweling too much of KVEC's news department and re-hired King Harris.

Personally, I think it's idiotic to mess with success just to save a few dollars. KVEC is a heritage station for SLO with a strong listener base. Why blow it up?
