Phil Becker's in the building at WJFX tomorrow. I have it from several people that in addition to his co-ownership stake, Phil's going to be Hot's PD. I also hear that he will be on the air. Anyone wanna make bets on who's getting canned?

Good luck to them. They'll need it because I think it's obvious that Wild's gotten themselves together and they're kicking Hot's butt. I believe they'll soon be out of the ratings period... I can't wait to see these results.

In one of your previous posts about Christmas music in Fort Wayne, I believe IndianaR said it best in reply: "WYLT? LOL! I guess something needs to help them out. The product and the airstaff sound good, but the ratings aren't there."
I'm looking at it from his angle as well. Let me post the last ratings book for you.

10.WNHT Top 40/R Summit
11.WXTW Alternative Summit
12.WYLT Hot AC Summit
13.WCKZ Classic Rock Summit
14.WGL-A Adult Standards Summit
15.WXKE Adult Hits Summit
16.WKJG-A Sports Federated Media
17.WDDB Top 40/M Artistic Media Partners

Congratulations! If it wasn't for AMP (thier management) all the stations that you work for, "Summit Owned" would control the ENTIRE lower half of the market. Instead of worring about another station, maybe you should be thinking about where you can find a different/better job & who's gonna buy out Summit next/your contract! Clear Channel? Infinity? Mr. Oasis himself? What will you say next? That WXKE will battle AJI in the ratings. Lol.
Ya might wanna just keep your mouth shut for obvious reasons. Karma..........it's a bitch.

As I have said many times, I'm not an employee of Summit. I have my reasons for disliking WJFX, none of which are any of your business. Regardless of that, can you actually hear the station? If not, then maybe YOU should keep YOUR mouth shut.

If you could hear the two, you'd know that Wild is doing a superior job. Hot's jocks sound bland, cookie cutter and like it's a job. Wild's jocks sound like they're having fun. Hot goes straight from a song into spots. No promo, no sweeper, no jock break, nothing. That's small market and makes them sound unprofessional. Musically, both are about the same which makes sense since they're doing the same format. Promotions on Wild are fun and topical. Hot's promotions are the same thing over and over again maybe with a different paint job each time. "Get you sticker so you can get paid!" What stupid unoriginal BS is that? In a bigger market they'd be getting killed.

Like it or not, Hot sounds horriable and Wild sounds great.

Is this going to be a 50/50 share between Becker and Oasis, or is Oasis selling out whatever interest he has left in the station?

My source wasn't able to tell me anything other than what was in the All Access story about it. I do know that Oasis does still have the majority ownership in the station. I'm not sure if he's done a FCC filing yet but if not I'm sure that's coming.

dude...someones got a hard-on for wild...sure ur not an employee?

on the flipside, my pd used to work there..i heard that while the spring ratings still looked like Hot was kickin some major ass...the month by month showed wild closed the gap from from 3 shares to just a half share!

why else would they be making what sounds like some major changes? whatever happened to if it ain't broke, don't fix it???

All you talk about is Summit stations and how great they sound. People who read this board aren't blind or deaf (except maybe you). Too bad their numbers don't have your back. You do work there & I'm sorry (we all are probably). You know nothing about what JFX, AJI, MEE, or any of the other 9 stations above your best are going to do. JFX is 4th. Can you not read? (try 1st-17th, read down) I know you see those "What stupid unoriginal BS" bumper stickers all over town. I think jfx has got to be doing something right. You don't see any other stickers around do you? Maybe a few bear ones. Not only that, but the quality of sound from jfx is better.......get in your car and flip..........hot sounds louder & clearer. Am I the only one who notices clarity? Listen to the bear, K105, JFX, & MEE......pretty close! So, the promo's may sound the same.......i agree-they pretty much do the same thing book in & book out. But, it's obviously working. The numbers are there & so are those damn stickers! Will anyone beat Oldies, Wowow, or K105? I doubt it! But your talking about a station in 10th....woops.....i forgot........and I'm sure most everybody else (including listeners) are forgetting about them too. In response to Matt k......I just read what you probably did on allaccess about Becker joining them. I wasn't living in the fort when he used to be here. So I don't know. Ask Tragedy, he seems to have an ear in every radio station in Ft Wayne.

Nothing will show up with the FCC until the station files it's bi-annual ownership report. They won't have to do that again until Spring of next year.

I don't know what you're listening to, but Hot has the worst processing in the market. They're over-modulated, and sound distorted. It wouldn't surprise me if Russ has them over legal limits. They are hard to listen to, and maybe that is partly the reason their numbers are down.

Let me attempt to summarize the Hot and Wild battle:

A. Some folks on this board prefer how a radio station sounds to them.
B. Musical tastes vary.
C. Not all of us are radio professionals.
D. Some folks on this board prefer stations with higher ratings.
E. Success is defined to some by radio station billing/sales, to some by ratings, and to some by the DJ lineup they employ. There's no connection between those three factors. Great DJ's become the victims of bad books, lousy selling stations may simply be the victim of a poor sales staff, and ratings ESPECIALLY IN A MARKET LIKE FORT WAYNE are very volitile based on external forces (i.e. what other stations do).

Discuss.

Soooo glad I don't have to deal with Becker anymore!!! He was the worst PD I've ever had.....the guy has no personality!! When he showed up at JFX it took him over two weeks to introduce himself to the airstaff...what kind of management is that??? I loved JFX before Becker came along...at least it was fun. I'm glad I've moved on to greener pastures!
Here's hoping penguin boy has gotten that stick out of his ass...
