Change at Cat Country 105.3

Have not seen any comments about the apparent forced departure from WJEN 105.3 Cat Country in Rutland, Vt. of morning personality Judy Anderson. She has been replaced by Willie Clark who returns to cat country after working at some stations in the mid-west. Willie was on the original cat country, 95.1.

This is just another desperate move by a desperate company. Wille Clark back on Cat Country? Bold move there... I know you will all be shocked by that statement coming from me, but lets be honest here folks. They have ruined those radio stations! As a group, their stations are in total turmoil. WSYB has a guy that cant do something as simple as reading the sports alongside a guy who doesn't give a crap about his performance, doing mornings. The high school sports coverage is a joke too! Z97.1 is a mess. Cant find or keep anyone worthwhile because they deep down just hate that station. And now they move Judy Anderson again. Why don't they do what they need to do to make the stations work? Get rid of the morning Bore on WSYB and the Afternoon Ego on WJJR. Yeah I know, coming from me this comes as a big shock. But has anyone actually listened to these stations? If you have can honestly say that they are good sounding stations, I have to question the means by which you measure good radio. Time and Temp makes for great radio, if this were 1976! And that seems to be the only thing they do at that company. Just my 2 cents, and of course, you will all fill me with the "dont listen then" or "does anyone care what you think?" statements, and thats ok, in fact, its expectd. But please, just listen to these stations and THEN pass judgement

Just an observation--the 60's and 70's were really the 'heyday' of radio. (the 40's and 50's weren't bad, either) Time and temp were definitely a part of it and radio was big. I've had listeners tell me they appreciate hearing it. With listenership suffering and stations struggling is there possibly a connection? Maybe what they did in 70's really did work and perhaps it should be brought back. Just a thought.

Yeah right. Maybe if Chrysler went back to building the Plymouth Valiant they'd be a player today too. :-\

That was then, this is now. Radio was pretty much the only game in town, even if it sucked people listened anyway. What other choices did you have? 8 tracks?
This is not to say that radio doesn't need to do something to connect to today's under 30 crowd, but 70s-style radio isn't gonna cut it.

Agree with Mr. Poon that Z97 is pretty awful...those cybertracked WFLY jocks (I presume that's who they are) don't even try to sound local. Haven't heard any of Pamal's other Rutland stations.

WEFW Radio says "That was then, this is now". Well, it appears from these posts that "now" isn't working either. In trying to find solutions, I'm not sure how sarcasm helps. Agreed--there is a lot of competition now for the listener....more than ever before. (Does anyone else remember the old 45 RPM record player that fit into dashboard of a car? Didn't work very well on bumpy roads...)

With all the options available to the listener, stations today MUST provide something that they can't get anywhere else including iPods, satellite, MP3 players in cars, etc. And what is that? A DJ that is creative, original, LIVE and in touch with the listener. When the listener likes what they hear, they will also hear the commercials and buy the products. The advertisers will spend more dollars on radio, and the stations will make more money, etc. etc. etc. That's the formula. It worked in 1976 and still works today.

By the way--who wouldn't like to own a 1976 Mercedes? See...excellent quality is enduring. We need to keep up with the times and technology, but if we provide an excellent product it also will endure. WEFW Radio picked a Plymouth Valiant for a sarcastic comparison--not a quality product like a Mercedes or perhaps even older Rolls Royce. Good posts and comments here are helpful and enjoyable--degrading sarcasm doesn't add anything.

Only "cybertracked WFLY jock" is Tanch, the night guy. Middays and PM drive are local.

I am less than impressed with the programming coming out of that group of radio stations. I understand going syndicated on the Z morning show but feel it was huge mistake to go syndicated in AM Drive on WJJR. That's a huge regional station playing A/C which should be communicating with the listener in AM Drive by keeping it's own morning show. I did think the old morning show was less than ideal but it was communicating on a personal level and talking about the area. That is now not even an option. Overall, I find the presentations across all of these stations to be very bland and the production elements quite basic.

Willie Clark to me is unlistenable. I could only take a few minutes of his show. I do enjoy Bob and Sheri and they probably fit better on WJJR then they did on ZRT. There was a huge outcry when Catamount took them off WZRT and maybe that was a reason to add them to WJJR. I think ZRT is a decent small market CHR. WSYB is up and down as far as programming goes which is typical for a talk station. I can't listen to WJEN anymore between Willie and Chris O'Neil - yuck. I wish WJJR was a more personality based AC. After Bob and Sheri it reminds me of a very boring MOR type AC.
