Their webpage has a clock clicking down to midnight Sunday. Anyone know what will happen then?

Give KPHX some credit. That's twice as many people than listen to Lumberyard 1440. ;D

We're picking up rumblings at the Buckeye Media Hut that All Comedy Radio has resurfaced without Gary Coleman. It'll be funnier this time!

I loved All Comedy Radio

But when they put Gary Coleman on, not so much... ::)

Yeah it's a lot more fun throwing darts at Barry (not his real name) Young's hateful, withered countenance.....

Thank you Bill Drake (not his real name) for that insightful insight. ;D

Seems the countdown was for their New Web Site. I've also noticed a bunch of Bill Boards for them. And I'm guessing they will draw alot of listeners with them, [EDIT]
I like what I hear people talking about at KPHX and they seem to be able to get the message across without insulting an entire race of people, unlike folks like Bruce Jacobs, Ankarlo, Glen Beck, JD Hayworth, and all the other Conservative Talk Hosts that have to resort to that to cover what "The Bush Crime Family" does to the American Public. [EDIT]
I seem to have no problem hearing that station when I'm in my car, and when I'm home I can stream the station so The Signal issue is Not an Issue.

Without adressing your political rant (this is a Radio-Info Board and NOT The Daily Kos), let me say that KPHX will always pull <2 share with their current signal. Low power = low share. End of story!

Wah! Mighty thin skinned, aren't we? Yes, this is a radio info board, and if mentioning hate peddlers is topical then what is your problem?

As for low power = low share, your knowledge of the history of successful radio stations is also low powered! I would suggest a little studying of the subject before writing off KPHX.

Seems to me that KFI (Los Angeles) languished for years despite their 50 KW signal because no one was listening to corn pone town and country farm programming.

A big stick only works of there's something worth hearing.

Oh, and I stand by my remarks re: "Barry Young"

Bill, I never said a low powered station has not been successful. I wrote and still maintain the opinion: KPHX will always pull <2 share with their current signal. KPHX has yet to break out and prove me wrong.

Also, if you want to discuss peddling hate on the radio, start a thread and see how long it lasts before it gets moved to TIO. The topic may very well be relevant for the Phoenix market, but it won't last long before inflammatory comments get bandied about. Political discussions are best suited for political forums.

Both sides of the discussion use hate speech at times. I've heard just as much bitterness and hate on KPHX as anywhere else--maybe moreso.

The facts are simple: The station has low power, this hurts them. The station appeals to a very small group of people, this hurts them. The station's sound is unprofessional, this hurts them--as illustrated by a loop of "This is the Mike Maloy show on the Valley's Progressive Talk..." This went on for maybe 30 minutes last night... yes I check every station from time to time. (by the way, KPHX has a HORRIBLE voice guy--oof, get some dental work).

Call me when KPHX breaks above a 1.5 (or even a 1) share in 12+ and/or the key demos and we'll start taking them seriously.

The right has become a master at using radio as a tool for peddling hate. Let's talk about the Fairness Doctrine, the TeleCom Act of 1996 and the consolidation of media power. Ask Phil Donahue if you want to broaden the discussion past AAR.

Rush and his band of wanna-be imitators comprise 95% of political talk radio and have used their positions to transcend mere "entertainment" to character assassination and way beyond.

I can actually listen to KPHX and learn something (when I can hear their lousy signal). I can listen to KFYI and hear political talking points repeated ad naseum.

That being said, KPHX's imaging sucks. It's pretty pitiful when you hear a two-day old Dewey Hopper newscast. As to appealing to a minority, the last time I checked 70% of the public was not a minority.

I could have called you when KPHX first took AAR from KXXT; they peaked then with a 1.3 share. It's all been downhill since and I think the biggest reason is a zero promotions budget.

Thomm Hartman points out that stations that promote AAR (or any liberal talk radio) and are well run (meaning not hearing constant promos for expired events, or old news as previously mentioned, or the stuck loop like you mentioned) can and do beat right wing stations.

Oh yeah; I sent an e mail to the station about another stuck loop of Jeff Farias and all I got back was some dodgy reply that made absolutely no sense at all.

Thanks for the visual! :'(

(is that a tear or spittle?)

Bill: I think you can learn from any host in any format if you're willing to take what many say with a grain of salt and do a bit of your own research. One should keep in mind that talk radio is an entertainment first operation. I don't find that there's much to learn from the programming on KPHX though, even you noted their days old news, their looped promos and so on.

You can make all the excuses you like for their under performance in just about every market, but it comes down to what people would like to hear--and the same old same old from the left side of the spectrum instead of the right is just not it. Weak signal, not enough promotion, buried on the dial... it all sounds like "blah blah blah" excuses to me. The station is almost being beaten by Radio Disney for God's sake... it may be time to put KPHX to bed.

As for the fairness doctrine: What's fair about that? As it is now is perfectly fair, if you want liberal talk and liberal views, turn on KPHX, if you want conservative talk, turn on KFYI--or even KTAR FM, if you want to hear about conspiracies followed by Colon Blow ads, turn on KFNX, if you want random talk by washed up wanna-bes then KXAM is your place--my point is that there are a number of choices on the dial now, instituting a governmental policy to regulate speech and interfere with the free market system seems rather Communist to me--"you can say whatever you want, but only 50% of the time".
