Change Is Good???

I don't know about everyone else but I totally love the new direction CHR radio is taking. The hip hop r anb we've had crammed down our throats the last 3 years is changing. Its beoming more dance friendly. It seems that CHR radio is excepting dance, pop and rand b leaning dance songs. 3 years ago David Guetta, september and Enur wouldn't have touched the airwaves. Rihanna, lady gaga sounding tracks wouldn't exist on top 40. Chris Brown and Neyo wouldn't have put out "forever" or "closer" nor would Pitbull and DJ laz sampled "Satisfaction" by Benny Benassi for a track. It is refreshing to here the progression of CHR. I really was starting to lose hope. I don't need to hear 6 hip hop only stations here in Philly.

Also, we got Katy Perry- Hot N Cold,,, which is number one at alot of stations and crossed over to the dance charts,,,, Also,, something unusual like MIA-Paper Planes wouldnt have made it to U.S airwaves a few years ago,, We wouldnt have had Rhythmics playing stuff like Jordin Sparks-One step at a time.. We may even see Madonna's Miles away on the CHR charts soon, im debating on adding it, but younger listeners seem to just think Madonna is too old, but the 25-54 still love her.

And although many of us dont like this song or the singer-Brittneys-Womanizer has that dance pop sound as well and some stations are doing great with this one, while it has tanked on others.

And also,, we have seen a resurgence of quality modern rock being released lately, and the return of Guns in Roses and AC-DC which may get airplay at the rock friendly CHRs,, also, stuff like Saving Able, Seether, and Shinedown all have good potential crossover material right now. Id like to see the new Shinedown make it to CHR. Sometimes goodbye is a second chance is the Shinedown song im referring too if you wanna look it up,,, A new song from Alter Bridge and Weezer's new one also have good crossover potential.

Alterbridge is a great song. But modern rock isn't new on CHR. In fact the biggest hits on CHR have been songs like that. Staind. Nickelback. Puddle of Mudd. 3 Doors Down. Linkin Park. Evanescence.

As to the original poster... you can thank Timbaland for changing the face of Top 40. He secretly snuck dance beats into his songs :)

Heck even Akon is doing it now. And T.I. is sampling German dance songs.

I don't think "I Kissed a Girl", Xtina, nor "Miss Independent" would've made it to US airwaves a few years back either.

I expected Alter Bridge "Watch Over You" to blow up with my listeners after giving it a test spin... and I got a mostly negative response.  I dunno why... a few said it was too whiny and too Creed, and they usually eat that kind of stuff up. ???  So if it gets a jump in spins, I'll add it.  Seether "Rise Above This" already peaked on CHR & HAC, and there's a few CHRs playing Shinedown "Second Chance" (including mine).  Also, Theory of a Deadman "Bad Girlfriend" and Jack's Mannequin "The Resolution" have potential on CHR.

"Paper Planes" was M.I.A.'s most radio friendly track (we played "Bucky Done Gun" back in the day) with added hype from the movie... Kala was a pretty good album and the gunshot sound effects aren't the greatest hook but that's what got the song to grow on me ;D
