Change LV Radio for the better

Dear Mega-Corporate PD,

I know times are tough right now, but maybe you can do the listeners a favor this new year, and take a few of these suggestions to your superiors, and maybe create a better experience for us all.

1.) The iPod/MP3 player is NOT your rival. It's a tool, an asset many of your listeners have. Provide something for it for your listeners... something beyond the morning show podcasts, please. PM me for more ideas.

2.) Here's a thought. Instead of hyping HD radio for your listeners to purchase, demo one while you are at a remote. If the car you're selling me has it, demo it. Don't just tell me, show me. And tell Microsoft to put an HD receiver in their Zune. It's already got your FM station receiver in it.

3.) Fix and update your websites. Please. I know of 7th graders that have better websites on Myspace than you. And consider adding an interactive social element like those pages that are the devil to so many of you.

4.) For the love of God, please don't play "the best of" segments on the morning. If the main players are on vacation whilst I schlepp away to work over the holidays, please give me Music, news and traffic. I don't want to hear a repeat of a show that possibly wasn't funny to even begin with.

5.) And finally, as tempting as it all is, please lose as much syndication as possible. Give some part-timers a chance. Even at market 69-70, whatever we are anymore, we are still an area full of small town local pride. Let's keep it that way. Bring local back. Tell me it's 13 degrees in Nazareth, 12 in Bangor and 14 in Allentown.

Happy new year to you, and God willing, I won't have to keep flipping back and forth between a my iPod and traffic reports that aren't so good anyway on my daily commute.

Signed,
alamo33

I agree about number 4. Steve Mitman should have been given the opportunity to totally do a full morning in BGW's absence. Perhaps BGW is scared that Mitman is too good and he will take his job. SOme of those best of bits were terrible. I heard a best of bit that was not even close to funny.

BEST OF segments all morning long ?- on a live morning radio show?

what a prententious load of crap

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE can do that - BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE MATERIAL

and radio wonders why the audience is bored out of it's mind?

bring local back? bring back oldies on a 24/7 basis! at least WAEB and 1470 THE FOX is trying to be as local as possible.i'll never buy an i-pod or get sirius! after what they did to a seeburg jukebox! forget it.....

u must be pa dutch. caus that's exactly the stubborn, don't change with the days attitude that explains why your radio stations are doing so crappy... oldies are for reminiscing... that's why they're classics... but not for 24/7 listening.. you need to keep up with the times.. plain and simple.

and alamo... bravo... bravo .. and bravo. from the stale websites that look like an aol popup window to the outdated music they play.. you can always tell the transition to the lv from philly when the playlist is about 2 months behind.

more irish! and if i try! to keep up with the times i'll be bankrupt!!! oh oldies are for reminising.BTW great little river band song dude! and MY radio stations are crappy??? ha ha ha....that's funny.DIY,MUH,790 and FOX 1470 are all i listen to.WGPA and WRNJ as well.in parting...why didn't sirius use a lousy rock-ola juke box to demo.ok bye.

who's? on first....what's on second....etc....the only thing that changes around here is the weather! not radio formats that need to be changed.....one is the lonliest number and i'm just a subborn kind of fella!

so go work with jolly joe.. u'll get along well i hear.. and his ratings are dropping too after not workin out a deal with ken. amazing.. i think i'm discovering a theme here. lol

The LV is full of great radio listeners who had great stations to emulate throughout time,
including WABC and WIBG/WFIL. They heard great talent, but the market only hires LV
talent who stay in the market and jump from station to station. Other than Ken and Kitty,
tell me the last out market hire in the Lehigh Valley. WCTO went on the air with imported
talent who wasn't swayed by the stagant, non-motivated local fare. The began getting
stale when The Citadel would only hire within and from the region or market. Make the
stations more personable to the market and for cryin out loud hire some personalities. I
got so tired of the Mike Kelly, Stosh, Blake Dannen, Chris Line, Karen Stone, Sam Malone
type local jocks who don't even relate to the market. The out of market air talent hired
at WCTO related more to Wind Gap, Emmaus and more because they became fascinated
with the locals and their love of talented personalities. Why was Ken Matthews so freakin'
relatable on the air, he wasn't from the area - He was motivated to learn the customs
and regional quirks of the area. God Bless the "you'ze" listeners. I would give my right arm
to have the listeners in LV in the market I'm in now.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, bassett!!!! Once again, a shot in the dark from someone with no kahonies (b.t.w.; i'm NOT originally from the Lehigh Valley; I'm from some other unrelateable market). Thanks also for getting a rise out of me; it's been almost 2 years since I posted on this board.
