Not that I really listen to Cunningham anyway (Hot headed fool if you ask me)...but saw this in the news this morning.

Cunningham and McConnell may be leaving 700 WLW to go to work in Chicago...

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/.../Cunningham-McConnell-could-be-leaving-WLW-AM

Very interesting. Well, if they leave; it will open up a "new format" for WLW...at least one that doesn't include Cunningham.

No offense if you like him, but in my opinion; I think Cincinnati radio is better off WITHOUT Cunningham.

In my opinion; he's an overblown, egotistical maniac that says anything and everything to get a rise out of listeners and callers....

Willie is great. I realize a lot of people, especially liberals can not take blunt talk much less hyperbole unless it is by the Olberman or Maher types.

I would like to think both hosts are bargaining.

I can see Mike leaving more than Willie.

Losing both would be a very tough thing for WLW as far as top replacements.

I could see McConnell going to Chicago. I can't see Willie leaving. Like him or not, he's a Cincinnati institution. He's too Cincinnati to go over well in Chicago, if that makes sense.

Well, considering that he has already or is in the process of taping some type of daytime talk show pilots...and his comment from the article stated, "I'm a WLW employee For Now ..."

I would say that it is just a matter of time...

IMO... he WAS a Cincinnati Institution.... Good Riddance Cunningham.

I'm neutral when it comes to politics and the like, but I really have not liked Cunningham at all; and I have lived here since 1988. I'm not democrat, liberal, or republican. What I mislike is when someone like Cunningham tries to force their opinions in that "I'm ALWAYS RIGHT Attitude, and I'm better than everyone else."

I can't stand that out of a Radio Jock. He just happens to be on an AM station in a Conservative City that is mostly owned by Clear Channel...

Sounds to me like Rush will be moving to the big stick. And perhaps Glenn as well.

Never will happen. I see Sloanie moving to 9-noon and Deters 9p-midnight, with Bill staying noon-3.

If Cunningham leaves, they'll definitely put Rush on the big stick. I don't think they'd put Glenn on just yet. Interestingly, I wonder how much putting Rush on LW would hurt WHIO seeing as how they basically share a listenning area?

I don't think it would hurt at all - WLW has not been a big powerhouse in Dayton of late. And who listens to AM on a regular basis that's under age 50 in Dayton? One might think the FM would attract demos under 50...and in fact, I suspect that just might be true. And those people won't go to AM radio for anything...even a 50,000 watter.

Definately be the end of an era. Now if Michaels could talk Gary Burbank out of retirement (have heard rumors of an Earl Pitts WGN-TV pilot).

What happens to WLW after their midday lineup departs is anyone's guess. There's not much of a bullpen. Deters at noon every day? Uh..no. Rush and Beck move over and WKRC becomes your Dave Ramsey and Clark Howard station? Then what happens to McConnell and Cunningham's weekend shows?

I agree with you....ever since Burbank retired (I did enjoy listening to him occasionally)...I have given Eddie and Tracey multiple times to TRY to listen. At first, I thought it would be a great matchup. Fingers was always good in his 'EBN days; and I thought a pairing up with Tracey Jones would be listenable. :-[ NOT SO MUCH :-\

Tracey Jones is a bonafide idiot; and another WLW personality that is full of himself. He is so pompous when he is on the air; as if he was the greatest ball player for the Reds (MARGINAL at best, and that's a stretch)...he is insulting to anyone that calls in; and I have called in a few times myself; but he is so full of himself it is hard to get a word in edgewise. I know that part of it may be for show, but he goes so OVER the Top, it's rediculous.

I doubt that Real-Talk 1160 would give up Dave Ramsey; as the show seems to be a good fit for what they have going over there right now.

McConnell leaving would not be a shock, he has seemed bored for quite some time. The earlier mentioned move of Sloan to midday and adding Deters to nights makes sense.

I can't see Cunningham leaving Cincinnati. He's the proverbial big fish in the small pond. His ratings in Chicago would be nowhere near what they are now as Chicago has many choices for talk and news. It seems more likely for him to record his WGN TV start up here. Will Helen Mays call him to get him to stay?

The thing is, both of them could sign up for another term with WLW and coast until retirement. A gig with WGN could be over in a year. Chicago isn't known for giving outside personalities a lot of latitude. The ratings that the local talent get is no doubt the only reason there is no syndication on WLW (except the syndication they originate). That could very well change.

This is new info.

CINCINNATI -- A couple of longtime local radio hosts may be heading to the Windy City.

Sources said Thursday that Mike McConnell is leaving 700WLW to take a radio gig at Tribune’s WGN radio in Chicago.

McConnell gave notice last Friday and will end his show at the end of July, the sources told News 5.

Was just getting ready to post this info as well, of what microbob has posted....

Considering that Cunningham has taped some type of talk show pilot in Chicago recently; I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps ship.

Does anyone remember a few months back (maybe two months ago)...Cunningham and Springer (Yes..Bill Cunningham and Jerry Springer) taped a half hour "Debate/Discussion" Current Events type show. It was taped at Fox19 and aired late on a Friday or Saturday Night....it was kind of like watching Siskel and Ebert doing current events... [shutters] :-\ [/shutters]

Let them go to Chicago....as much as people are saying that Cunningham is an "Institution" in Cincinnati (that's debate able right there)....his brashness for politics, etc. would be better suited up there anyway.
