The Dallas Observer Unfair Park blog reports Redbeard has been released because "the station is going in a new direction". And that includes traditional commercials soon.
 
Well, now that classic rock can be heard on occasion at the Eagle, there's no telling what 92.5 will flip into. (Except that odds are it'll be something crappy.)
 
Still have my fingers crossed for a format that encompasses at least some Classic Alternative/AAA music that doesn't have any other radio home in this area.
 
Yesterday, upper management told Redbeard that the station is "going in a different direction". I find it interesting that the move was made with PD Duane D. out on vacation. I am also interested to see who( if anyone) is moved over to fill the void( since CC is presently in hiring freeze mode).

Management didn't have to tell Redbeard that. Everybody at the station and anyone who listened have known it for months. Instead of an eclectic mix of country and classic rock 92.5 turned back the clock to the same worn out rock tunes and an occasional "sort of" country-influenced classic rock gem that seems strangely out of place. It was a precarious blend of Drive-By Truckers, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, David Allan Coe and U2 that nobody could pull off, not even Redbeard. So much for Texas ("Lone Star") country/rock radio.
 
Even the afformentiomned artists would be cool, the artists really went, .38 Special, Willie Nelson, Steve Miller, Ray Wiley Hubbard!
 
I've noticed that KEGL has been playing more classic rock. It would be nice if 92.5 moved toward a AAA format like KBCO in Denver or KFOG in SF.
 
management should've told the midday guy about redbeard -- around noon i heard him tease something (contest, or more information) coming up this afternoon with redbeard. maybe he doesn't read this board?
 
Id love to see them go more eclectic...but I doubt it'll happen. They're ALMOST back where they started before the flip musically. And I heard that midday guy tease Ray Wiley Hubbard...not Redbeard in the noon hour
 
One problem no one's mentioned was a lot of the country was old worn overplayed out songs like:

Whiskey River - Willie Nelson
Family Tradition - Hank Jr
All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down) - Hank Jr
The Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels
On The Road Again - Willie Nelson
Little Ways - Dwight Yoakum
Honk Tony Man- Dwight Yoakum

Sorta like the country version of a "Stairway To Freebird" playlist. Songs being played over and over that have been on the radio for years. Sure there was Corby Davidson's all time favorite band The Old 97's and other acts that only a few people care about. I guess you could call that variety but I think it's more like an identity crisis. Contradictions everywhrere. Were going to play some stuff you have never heard of and be different. Oh WTF, lets play Boceephus and Willie's greatest Hits. "Wait a minute lets' play some Skyrnrd Man.
Can't play Freebird but will play " That Smell" everyday. The first few weeks no Eagles then as the summer went on "Oh yeah the Eagles were country-rock".

I grew up listening to AOR KZEW and Q102. Alot of artists and songs still appeal to me. Some I have grown tired of. I didn't mind a little country once in a while but I cound' handle the almost 50-50 mix Lonestar started with. I wish they would go to a deep cuts format of classic rock artists rather than rely on overplayed hits. Kinda like sattellite radio. NO COUNTRY CLASSICS, PLEASE!

You make a good point. I actually listen on a daily basis and find myself hearing the same tracks over and over. I frequently wonder why they've chosen certain songs and why I'm not hearing others that would fit well within the Americana or country/rock format. I can see them having a small handful of songs and artists in heavy rotation, but those should be limited and preferably new. Hearing the same song twice in a day or even over a few days time should be a rare occurance.
 
A few artists I wonder why I'm not hearing (or hearing more of): Cross Canadian Ragweed, Stoney Larue, No Justice, Jason Boland, Cory Morrow, Jack Ingram. Just a few.

You have good taste. But, the moron listening at the local berr hall, is not so "refined" as you, or me, or anyone else that I know.

They test for their advertisers, and those great deep cuts will turn off the moron, umm therir target listener for the advertisers.... so... while they all agree as to what good music is.... their definition of what constitiues a "Good Listener", does not include the likes fo you or me...

It'a all about getting that Lowest Common Denominator. THEY WILL NEVER RISE ABOVE THAT. For that is where the MOST $$ is, and whatever gets you the Bottom Line, is by DEFINITION : GOOD !

They call it a WasteLand. As long as the Dollars roll in, the corporation could care less about what they are called. Like th way a Loan Shark never is bothered by opinions of human beings. 8)

What changes? I tried them once again - a good classic rock song, then followed by country bumpkin' hillbilly stuff. Push went the button to "The Bone". NO country cr@p on there ----
