Changes at ABC15

Lori Jane Gliha has left the station. Nick VinZant has joined the station.

And they are still searching for a Weekend Meteorologist. Really?!? Gee, is it that hard to find someone to come to the desert and read temperatures 99% of the time? Seems like an easy job to me! :D

I have noticed a number of new faces reporting from the field lately on ABC15.

I am still puzzled why they hired Iris to be the weekend person. When they decided to get into the weekend morning new show game, Iris joined that show but does not do the weekend evening forecasts. (3TV's weekend weather personality, Kim Q. does the weekend morning routine which usually includes a remote plus returns to do the two shows in the evening. It was the same thing for Brittney Shipp when she was there.) Is it really that much of a strain on her? Randy Kollins has been covering the weekend evening shows (they even gave him an email address @ABC15.com); I wonder if he does not want this to become a permanent gig.

I've also noticed that Amy Murphy is gone alot. She does the early morning show (4:30-7:00am) but either Iris or Randy Kollins fills in for her many times at 11am.

Finally, I was gone for a couple of weeks to San Diego and noticed on my that ABC15 has stepped up their "Taking Action" moniker. That's right they say it at the beginning and end of the newscast and that's about it. How are they "Taking Action"?

It seems as if ABC 15 has people coming and going every week! KTAR's Christina Estes reports on evening editions on ABC 15 and I've just recently seen Brittany Hlubek from radio station KMLE.

3TV's weekend am newscasts start at 7am and their last weekend pm newscast ends at 9:30om. If Kim goes right home, she can still get a reasonable amount of sleep on Saturday night (6 hours).

15's weekend am newscasts start at 5am and their last weekend pm newscast ends at 10:35pm. If Iris went right how, she might get a 3 hour nap.

So, yes, 15's schedule makes it significantly harder to have Iris do weekend mornings and evenings. Plus, with weekend morning and evening newscasts, it does help to have a 4th person on staff who can do the weather and fill-in for illnesses, pregnancies, and vacations. Look at how difficult is was on Brittney when April was on maternity leave. She worked almost everyday for three months.
