CHANGES AT BOB 106.9 SAVANNAH??

Interesting that the morning show for Bob 106.9 is no longer on their website. Is Tim Leary leaving? Did he get fired? Did he get a BBD Bigger, Better, Deal. Leary has been in top 20 markets, I can't see him staying in Savannah long. I wouldn't be suprised if he gets a BBD. Although their info is gone from their website, I believe they are still on facebook. Are they still on the air?

I second that motion. Otherwise if Cumulus beats them to the punch and puts modern rock on 102.1, that combo of I-95 and new rock on 102.1 will be the bad news for 106.1 in combined Sav-HH radio ratings.

The smart money would then put a news/talk or spanish format on the vacated 106.1 as country already has 2 Savannah stations, and 92.5/96.9 out of Charleston put a surprisingly good signal into most of Beaufort Co for the SC folks who don't like KIX96.

However, I understand the rationale of putting a country station on the air. Easy to sell, if ratings don't come up in the sales pitch. But it may be in Adventure's best interest to make 106.1 SC's country station and maybe just cut their losses for the format in GA as KIX has a pretty good stranglehold on the market and 10+ years of being a distant second fiddle (or third even!) is proof enough the market ain't really bitin'

Or better still, why not that "hard-edge" country/southern rock format that is popping up everywhere. I have a perfect name...106-1 the Gator! Beats Bob, Country, or Lucky Dog Country (wtf? I still dont get that one...)

106.9 has already been "The Gator", believe it or not. Also, I've yet to hear this Southern Rock/Country hybrid....unless you're referring to I-95..the sleepiest lil rock station this side of the Altamaha!

What makes you think 102.1 would go Modern? They did it once in the 90's, sure. They have the rights to GA Southern football, which is not compatible for a Modern Rock station. Also, and RCombs can answer this, but didn't 102.1 suffer major tx damage, making the choice to flip it to a mono sports station fairly easy? If that's not the case, I'd think Cumulus would have moved 103.9 to 102.1, and letting that become sports talk (since it's on the for sale block anyway).

106.1 remains Adventure's strongest & most compelling station, so throw in the towel in fighting to become the #1 country station for Savannah, just like you did with 107.9 & become Beaufort County's country station.

Country/Southern Rock Hybrid: Unless something has changed, Dixie Country 106.7 out of Douglas Georgia was exactly that. They focused more on country though.

WIXV - I-95: This station is tired. The only reasons why it keeps it's ratings is because for the cities out to the west like Statesboro, there really is not other stations that plays the 80's and 90's rock. My issue with WIXV is that they seem to NEVER update their playlist and its very limited.

WZAT would be great as modern rock. Only reason why it failed in the 90's was because of illegal activity and poor management. The music was and is very popular. An alternative leaning modern rock format would CRUSH 106.1 for two reason:

1- Gets out further into Statesboro (college population).
2- The more alternative/active rock mix would provide a better selection of music.

In Atlanta, they have WKLS 96.1 which is an Active rock station similar to Rock 106.1. The station is 100k watts and covers all of metro Atlanta. The majority of the listeners come from the more rural areas anyway. Country folk love some five finger death punch!

If WXRS 100.5 makes the move to Statesboro or if 99.3 becomes a reality out of Pembroke, those two stations might be better picks for the format.

Valdosta & Statesboro: Two comparable cities with large college populations and a booming population in general. Valdosta, even with other modern rock competitors, has seen it's local active rock stations do very well for the past 15 years it's been on the air. Can't tell me this would not work in Statesboro.
