Changes at CBS 5/3 TV - What We Know So Far

I wonder if the reaction to "Wake Up Arizona" is really more negative or is the increasing use of Facebook to talk about these types of things making us feel like the reaction is negative. For example, when Tara Hitchcock was removed from GMAZ a few years ago, I don't recall looking at Facebook to see how the general public was reacting. I believe that we are seeing a few people legitimately react to the fact that their favorite show with their favorite personalities has disappeared.

After watching the new show for a week, I believe that they need to tweak the format to allow a bit more hard news rather than just the top 5 stories. In addition, they should give Adam the seat next to Yetta, creating more of a dual-anchor show rather than focusing solely on Yetta. Finally, bring Katie back to the studio unless there is a compelling reason to have a live report.

Karen Brown, weekend pm anchor at 3TV, announced that tonight was her last day at 3TV during 3TV News at 9. So, both 3 and 5 are without weekend evening anchors right now.

I think we've now cycled through all of the 3/5 anchor departures. Now, they have to start filling the weekend evening vacancies. I'm surprised that they don't use a joint anchor team between 3 and 5 on the weekend evenings. The only overlay is at 5pm on Saturdays (they could move 3's newscast to 6pm and use a dual anchor format with the same people on both stations).

Karen Brown leaving is a surprise. Especially since she started working Politics Unplugged on Sundays.

I was thinking further about Karen Brown's departure. I don't recall 3 ever letting Karen Brown substitute for anyone on other newscasts AFAIK (perhaps I may have missed something during the holidays). Perhaps Karen got tired of being ignored by 3TV (or more likely wasn't sure if she would have a job during the recent station sales).

Karen Brown was on the news tonight reporting on a story. So I guess today (August 14) was her last day.

According to her Twitter she is headed for Columbus, Ohio. Anchoring the morning news weekdays should free her weekends and with a 7 year old daughter I'll bet that was a factor. Good luck to her.

I've seen a couple of electronic billboards along I-10 with Yetta Gibson and Wake Up Arizona. Kind of reminds me of the Connie Colla was the advertising focus of ABC15 morning show.

Also, Yetta isn't on the KPHO website. She is mentioned as working with Adam Longo and Heidi Goitia. But no picture or bio.

Yes, CBS 5 is doing a terrible job on their website. I suspect their webmaster must have left at some point. They haven't put on any new people at all. For example, Ashley Di Martino, Lina De Florias, and Yetta Gibson. Only people who were already at 3 or 5 have moved over (like Heidi).

It's interesting that they are trying to promote Yetta by herself, even though that didn't ultimately work out for Connie on 15 or Fay on 12 (remember when it was Fay with Joe and Syleste as sub-anchors) or even Yetta on 3TV in the evening (remember Yetta by herself at 10pm).

Anyway, perhaps Yetta will find a happy home this time :)

On Saturday September 19, Tanya Mendis anchored both KTVK's 9:00PM and KPHO's 10PM newscasts. Weatherperson Ashlee DeMartino did double duty as well.

Having Mendis on both programs probably is because normal 3TV weekend anchor Lina de Florias was interviewing Leslie Merritt, Sr., the dad of alleged freeway shooter Leslie Merritt Jr. Lina did live shots from the field.

In fact, if they changed 3TV's early news to 6pm, they could have a single weekend team for 3 and 5. 3 would have news at 6 and 10, with 5 at 5, 5:30, 6:30, and 10.

Perhaps they could pair someone with Lina De Florias as co-anchors. Then, if there is breaking news, one of them could go out in the field and supplement the reporter team.
