Encyclopedia, at this point change could be for the better with the Cox Richmond group. K95 is the only thing holding a profit that one can tell with the ratings. The planet is hurting after the departure of Dick Hungate, Y101 is going down the tubes at the expense of CC's 102.1 The X and Mix 103.7 is nothing short of a disaster.
Let me start at WKLR, which replaced Hungate for VTing. Dick was a great follow up to the morons John Boy and Billy. Actual signs of brains after 4 hours of people that make 3 hours of Rush Limbaugh tolerable. Why did they do it, probably because of "cost of production". I hope the suits learn from this one, not a bright move with such great talnet.
WDYL has been the whipping child of mine for a while on here. As Radio X and others could tell you, I have been calling for either the move to 100.9 approved by the FCC or more so, a change in format is needed. With Charlie, Mike, Keith and Christopher all gone(the Y jocks circa 2002 when the X came on the air), cox needs to make a move with this one to send shockwaves. If they get the move to 100.9 approved, it would boost the signal to help them in the war of Alt rock. If it stays at 101.1, then a format change is needed for this one, the war is over.
WMXB was a good station when they were HotAC. When the Buzz went off the air, they took on some of the music that would have aired on WBZU. Why Cox wanted to try to get after the Lite98 crowd is beyond me. I would change the format to a 80's-today heavy HotAC. Bring in a morning show that will stick longer than 18 months. Keep Jon Berry in PM drive, as he has been in that slot(except for that morning stint) for years since leaving his Q Zoo days.
The one common bond with these stations, get rid of the VTing and automation that is driving the stations into the ground. If they can do that then things could start changing for the better at Cox.
