Changes at Cumulus Des Moines

Bradshaw (98.3) got the axe too.

Cumulus is trimming the fat and plans to make more changes! My source re-affirmed last night in a phone conversation, that a third CHR in Des Moines is indeed on its way to 98.3!

Will occur sometime in March!

Hard to believe there is going to be 3 CHR's in this town soon. I too have heard the talk of a MAJOR 98-3 shift in the upcoming months. 3 CHR's won't stand long. Someone will go down eventually. But even if we have 3 of them for say...2-4 years that would be historic.

Sad to hear about this. I worked with Bradshaw about 10 years ago and almost worked with him again in '04, a couple years after he moved to South Bend to do WAOR's morning show. He's incredibly intelligent, and he has the exact same personality on and off the air.

I've met him once or twice in passing with mutual friends...I agree, he's a decent fella!

If I were a betting person, I would say it would be KKDM that falls. Des Moines as a whole seems to latch on to new stuff for several years then they start to get a little antsy for something different. KISS has been on top for too long and its quite evident that listeners are simply bored with it...

98.3 will bring a big stick into the fight (unlike 105.9) and from what I hear, it will be more mainstream like KISS, leaving 99.9 to keep the rhythmic crowd. The monikers my source keeps hearing if Cumulus indeed brings a CHR to Des Moines are either: "HOT", "Q", or "POWER"...possibly even "The Vibe".

Agreed, especially if it's a Rhythmic leaning Mainstream that strikes a good balance between HITS and KISS. Although, KISS has leaned much more dance and hip-hop friendly as of late so it will be an interesting battle. Hard to believe Des Moines could have 3 CHR's with the Twin Cities soon to have only one as 96-3 NOW is flipping leaving them with only a Mainstream CHR for the time being, if nobody else picks up the Rhythmic format up there.

With the news today of Lou & Heather moving to 98.3, I don't see a CHR landing on that dial.

I respectfully disagree. I think this proves something IS going to happen. This is Cumulus' genuine fingerprint: you put your flagship morning show on your flagship station, and fiddle with the other stations later.

Remember, contracts for Lou and Heather come up in April (about the same time my contact says something is going to happen) and I don't see this move helping 98.3's numbers in the least bit. I also heard that Cumulus got some major flack from area media outlets over the firing of Round Guy. So much flack, that I think they're doing this to show Lou and Heather the door "gently" by giving them a spot on a station that was eyed for dismantlement from the beginning.

Anyway, I saw the interview last night on KCCI with Lou, you could see it in his eyes, he knows this is temporary. I've met Him a couple times (Nice guy too), and that dude lived and breathed KGGO...He LOVED that station with everything he had and unfortunately, I don't see him being happy at a 98.3 for very long.
