this harkens back to the early jason smith/ESPN night-time programming thread from earlier this year...
no insider knowledge but i wonder if the ryen russillo show in a PM slot is about to drop. just a hunch but they did make an announcement this week that changes are coming and it seems like gottlieb has been sitting in a ton lately. maybe a logical partner for SVP or gottlieb replaces both and a flip flop happens with SVP put out to pasture radio-wise? or does this open up the slot for mike salk (decent) or more simulcasting of cheap TV programming (ugh) in the PM?
i hope gottlieb moves earlier. salk takes over 4-7 and russillo slides to the open 7-10 slot with an emphasis on the NBA. i hope something like this happens as the PM/overnight landscape looks bleak after baseball. maybe some "B" level talent can get mixed in (coleman, coachmen, amy lawrence). i respect & like chuck wilson but he's wasted as an overnight host. it would be great to have him permamently on the weekends with some show interaction during the week a la dan davis back in the day with tony k.
i'm a fan of russillo and hope he continues to get more time as long as he doesn't lose his snarky edge. there's enough NCAA football to keep the show going until the NBA lockout ends. i hope he can be allowed to bring some outsider talent to make segements less ESPNcentric & stale. larry coon, broussard, stein, bucher are fine but man it gets a little moldy to have the same analysts in the same segements. heck, even tony k was on dan patrick today. hope it doesn't take a 10 year anniversary or death to get marty burns or steve kerr on a show regularly.
i'm dreading the PM/overnight national radio airwaves post baseball. hope something promising develops in november...
if anyone has the 411, please post. thanks.
