Changes at Fish?

I make it a habit to follow our market's stations on Facebook, and I noticed an interesting post earlier today on the Fish 104.7 page. I've copied it verbatim:

"The NEW Kevin & Taylor in the Morning Show has more music, less talk and only the 'stuff you need to know'...plus the 'Secret Sound' at 7:25 and 9:25!"

interesting usage of the word "NEW"

Anyone know what's going on over at the Holy Mackerel?

According to the ratings I can see, they don't seem to be doing all that bad, especially considering they're a very niche station.

The change that interested me was replacing Dan Ratcliffe in afternoon drive with Beth Becall although Dan still heads up production and does vignettes on the air. I was told that they felt a female would relate better to their audience.

This is Kevin and Taylor from The Fish. We sure caused a 'stir' with our posting eh? That was unintentional- In our enthusiasm to move forward with some new ideas for the show that we believe are going to have really great results, we used the word 'new'. Probably not the best word- but we are very excited about where the show is headed and we hope you listen. K&T
(PS- LOVED the post about the secret sound being the rapture! Too funny! If it was the rapture, and your reading this, I guess we've all been left behind!)

The morning show is great (my favorite in Atlanta), but I quit listening to the Fish because the music seemed stuck in 2005. It's more like 104.7 The Goldfish. Great personalities and a fun station to listen to, but in need of more "current" music. An easy problem to fix after Christmas, if it hasn't already been corrected. 95.5 The Beat had the same problem.

I grew up on the old KOKF out of OKC where at nightly midnight the Christian Death/Speed Metal (Think Living Sacrifice) harmonies would take over the airwaves. It would be nice to hear a Christian station slice out a slot for us closet moshers. I've got a great idea for a show if a church would get behind it...but most are too conservative for the witness.

I'd like for Salem to put their "AlternaFISH Radio" (www.alternafishradio.com) on an HD channel on 104.7. WFSH may be the only decent-sized ATL FM without HD. And they could simul WGKA or WNIV while they are at it.

I once said I would love to see a Rock or Rock/Hip Hop Christian station in Atlanta. I had a long and detailed report on a format I called "Alive - insert frequency here" about six years ago as an idea for another property changing formats. Today, I would suggest a translator to try it. Alive 92.3 or Alive 100.9 as examples? These translators are good for testing new ideas before you make a big investment on a bigger signal. The Fish could buy a translator for it and test the idea. I'm guessing most listeners wouldn't know it was Christian when they stopped on it. It should be an easy sell in Atlanta. Some of these songs cross-over and they are safe for the entire family, when the kids don't want to hear Christian Adult Contemporary.

These are samples of what you could hear. Sorry, I don't have anything more current. I did have a more recent playlist to search from, but I misplaced it.

Today, I would strongly suggest adding Hip Hop too. This is something you can easily adjust on the translator, before deciding if Alive 100.5, as an example, is a good idea.
