Changes at FM KMJ

Ok, we've change in the works. The morning simulcast with AM is gone. Word is that Levin is going live at 3. So, what's the future for Chris Daniel? Is Inga on the way out on the AM, allowing Chris to pick up his lost two hours in the evening on the AM? Is Appleton calling it quits and Chris moves into his slot on the AM? Is reality biting at the FM, that there's no market for FM talk? If its so bad at FM KMJ, what the hell is going on over at 105.5, The Truth? Does anyone really care?

There is probably a market for FM Talk. However, FM Talk is more than just sticking AM Talk on the FM band. Successful FM Talk is programmed more like a music station with 3-big talk "sweeps" per hour and 2-3 commercial breaks. The focus is more lifestyle oriented than issue and is predominantly apolitical.

I'm sure many will hold up Fresno's brief flirtation with Free FM as an example that FM Talk won't work in the valley. Free FM was just another example of corporate radio doing what corporate radio does, trying to take a successful brand (KLSX) and roll it out in cookie cutter fashion across many properties.

What made FM Talk successful in Orlando and LA was 1. Howard Stern in the morning, and 2. LIVE, LOCAL shows the rest of the day! KLSX of course is no more, but WTKS in Orlando is still a powerhouse, having figured out how to survive post Stern.

FM Talk could most certainly work in Fresno, if it were done properly and not just a line extension or corporate edict.

ExKyno, why would Inga Barks be out? Chris Daniel is finding alot of success at KMJ it seems, but it does not appear that Ray Appleton is ready to leave radio. Didn't he sign a new deal recently? Glen Beck is red hot right now, it makes sense to air him live.

Just throwing out a number of scenarios for comment. I'm not saying Inga is going anywhere.

I like Chris on the FM. His FM slot comes at a good time of day when the office is slowing down and I'm looking for something that may be somewhat off the wall... Levin is not my idea of afternoon fun, he's Joe Pyne revisited (and not in a good way).
