Changes at KBKS

Welcome to town to the new afternoon talent at KBKS. Things are changing at that station in a big way. Music is directed at KUBE, focused on the 18-24 woman. A new pd, new afternoon show, a new morning show being phased in, and a new spirit. You can tell the difference, just listening. Also impressed with MOVIN and their new imaging. Much crisper, lots of local calls and listener reaction to the format. KUBE is under attack from KBKS on the lower end and MOVIN on the upper end. KUBE is also sounding pretty strong.
Should be a big battle between these three, BUT WAIT. The END is also sounding good, with music revamped, Folks we got a battle for 12-24 and 18-34 in Seattle!!!!!! WOLF will settle into the traditional country demo's of 35-54 after a nice spike in the younger end. So who wins? KBKS, KUBE, MOVIN or END. Will be fun to watch and listen. WOLF has already won the Country battle, for now.

"So who wins? KBKS, KUBE, MOVIN or END."

I think its impossible to answer that question now because there are too many uncertainties. Are Jackie and Bender's days really numbered at Kiss or are these rumors a result of one big Marcus D fan on this board who thinks he's gonna do mornings. Is the shift in music at the End enough or do additional changes need to be made. Will Movin ever hire jocks and if so when? I think it might take a few months to see what happens before anyone can predict who will win.

I think The End could use a new, local morning show. I'm sure Movin' will get some live people in pretty soon and as far as Jackie and Bender are concerned, I bet they stay put. I don't think Kiss has the drive to fire a morning show and rebuild. I'd really like to see The End do something...I miss them being one of the top stations.

There's always competition, but the only 'battle' is KMPS and The Wolf. KBKS is following the national chart, not chasing anyone. Lil Jon, E40, Yung Joc, Chamillionaire, and Cherish are getting spins nationwide on CHR/Pop stations.

Anyone who visits All Access or R&R knows Jackie and Bender signed a 3 year deal last year, they're not going anywhere. Do you think they'd go on vacation if there were problems? This is a message board, anyone can register and start a rumor about anything. (I could say Kidd Kraddick is on the way to Movin', would you believe that?)

Everything else is all same thing, the afternoon jock goes to off air PD and hires a new afternoon jock. That's all it is, it has nothing to do with KUBE. If the dozen or so regulars would stop commenting on the obvious baiting topics, the interns would stop posting. ;)

Will Movin ever hire jocks and if so when?
The only people who know that don't have time to post here, and they wouldn't risk their jobs to let a dozen or so AM radio board ops and 3 listener radio geeks know. ;D

So just because they signed a new contract, that means their jobs are safe? Get real man, just look at R&M, Mitch Elliot, Andy Savage and Scott Burns. A new contract doesn't mean a thing. If your numbers start to slip over a period of time, your job is in jeopardy regardless of when you re-upped a contract.

I have spent most of my radio listening time recently with KBKS. On a pop music binge. If you look back at my postings you will see that I am definitely a fan of personality-driven radio. And KISS seems to be doing a LOT of things really well right now- I love it. The one area I'd say they could use some help, as others have implied, is their morning show. As much as I want to like them they just really aren't that funny. There is just endless banter about meaningless things, their contests (IE: The Mind-Bender) drag on and on and are not entertaining. They need to either hire a really good producer who could glitz the whole thing up or start fresh. That said, I am not a fan of the idea of a PD doing double duty as a morning personality. If Marcus D was the man for mornings then they should have moved him there & found a new PD. And I don't think Jubal and Sammy have it either; Sammy's voice grates on my nerves. She's fine in tiny doses in the background but she could NOT carry a show. Not sure what the answer is but I fear that Jackie & Bender are never going to be a Seattle radio institution.

Is DJ No Name still available or is the night gig on KIRO now permanent? I wonder if he was pulling in better numbers than Adam Carolla is.

Who knows...No Name didn't really do anything for me. Who else local could The End get? Bring back Andy Savage?

Fitz, you weren't even around when no-name was on the air... the only reason you pass judgement as you are is probably because he's giving you weird looks in the hallways there at entercom.

Who knows if IveGotAFaceForRadio is really Fitz but if it is I would be willing to bet he and no name have never crossed paths. A full time morning guy and a guy who pulls a 9pm-1am shift usually don't see each other. Not to mention each station broadcasts out of a different building.

I thought no name was OK but I'm assuming his numbers weren't great or else the End wouldn't have made a change. Did Savage pull in decent numbers before he left for K-Rock?

He did a decent show at K-Rock.. Not sure ratings wise... Did Andy leave The End on his own free will for K-Rock thinking it was something bigger and better, and ultimately getting screwed?? Or was he let go from The End? Not sure what the story is behind that.

No Name is a cool guy, didn't really listen to his morning show, but he's a good guy. He should have never left afternoon drive.

I think that The End should bring Savage back... now I'm not a Savage fan, I've listened from time to time. I know that Andy has a fairly large following. If The End wants to make a comeback, go local in the mornings, and bring back Andy Savage, and put No Name back at afternoon drive. Two guys, w/years of experience and heritage in this Seattle market.

Not sure what the status is of Andy's co-host's/staff... if the show was brought back, would it ever be the same?

I had read in one of Bill Virgin's columns that Entercom wanted to re-sign him and he decided to leave. Not sure whether it was over money or if he didn't get along with management.

Steve the Producer works on BJ Shea's show now and I have no idea if his other cast members are still around.

Does the End really need a local morning show though? Seems like they could just stick with Carolla and continue to try to build his audience by promoting the heck out of it.

No one can touch T-Man for entertainment and TSL. The man has perfected the art of Seinfeld radio-- a show about nothing. It's just fun, not 4 hours of celebrity gossip and news/sports breaks. T-Man never has celebs in, except maybe a few local sports guys, and it always sounds like they're at least casual friends. He doesn't have people on to have them on, he knows how to put on a good show with just his crew. Every morning show should be able to do that, most can't.

BTW-- It's not Sammy's job to carry a show, she does traffic. All these 'rumors' started because J/B were on vacation, anyone posting during those days let you know how much they know about radio. No morning show is going to go on vacation if they know a better show will be on the air. ;)
