Changes at KLCK

Did the PD get fired or leave? Does this mean a format flip again. Smooth Jazz fans will be hoping for a return!

KQMV PD Maynard Doubles Up On KLCK

Maynard On The Job
SANDUSKY RADIO Top 40/Mainstream KQMV (MOViN 92.5)/SEATTLE PD MAYNARD has been appointed Acting PD for Modern AC sister KLCK (CLICK 98.9). Along with his current PD duties at MOViN, MAYNARD will be taking on all of the programming aspects of the station effective immediately.
"The opportunities for CLICK in the SEATTLE market are huge and we are looking forward to having MAYNARD accomplish these goals," SANDUSKY GM MARC KAYE said.

With a statement like opportunities for the station are huge I wouldn't expect a format flip, although they do seem to be all over the place with the format, first modern AC, then almost fullblown alternative, back to modern AC, now I don't know what to call them, a rhythmic alternative AC?

It's alternative/modern/AAA music. I don't know what format to call it. But, if KLCK flips back to KWJZ (hopefully not Alternative Talk 98.9 and 1150 KKNW) I guess the smooth jazz on 100.7 HD-2 will have to be removed, and maybe it will go back to Comedy?

Smooth Jazz is a dead format nationally and locally. Many have argued about the reasons- PPM, artist development (or lack thereof), format burnout, demographic shifts. I don't know what the answer is, but that ship has sailed.

I don't know what Sandusky is going to do with 98.9. But given what everybody else in this market does, it probably will involve the Eagles. We seem to love the heck out of the Eagles around here. ;D

You know, you're right. At any given time in this area, it seems like you always stumble upon a station playing the Eagles or Don Henley's solo stuff somewhere.....

Click's music isn't bad. But man, the bland automated presentation gets OLD.....It just comes across as too halfhearted. Especially for their kind of music.

Yeah, The Eagles, man. That's what we need more of. If I hear "Hotel California" again I'm going to throw my radio out the window. And more Cowbell, please. That's what we want. Yeah, right.

I think I wore out the current format on myself about February. When Click first signed on it reminded me of WRQX with a modern lean, but over the years both stations have become sort of bland to me as my tastes turn towards more dance-leaning pop. KQMV has it right although they don't seem to be able to top KHKS. There are people mostly around my age calling in to that station all the time. What do they do right? For some reason I never get bored of KCDA or WQSM, both automated presentations. I don't listen to WQSM during the week when they actually have an airstaff, but they are quickly becoming my weekend station. Would be nice if they had someone on weekends.

I honestly love Click. The music is awesome. I can listen to that longer than The End. (And, Click is some-what beating The End in ratings.) I hope it doesn't change. And I know the jockless presentation is a bit bland, but I like that on some stations, because some do it well (and Click does it right). I also like how they suggest new songs on some bumpers. Maynard, I hope you don't change it! If you do, you will lose this listener.

I love KLCK, except find it gets a little repetive. The concept is great, at least IMHO.

Maynard as PD is just a nail in the station's coffin. Bad BAD BAD decision.

Not a huge fan of either station, but for the sake of some small amount of accuracy, Click is beating the End in ratings???? What are you smoking?? November monthly....

18-34Persons End 8th, Click 18th
18-49Persons End 10th, Click 20th

Even with women, Click's original stated target (and NOT the End's target, by any stretch)

18-34Women End 8th Click 13th
18-49Women End 9th, Click 20th

With KMTT playing virtually no current music now and going Classic Rock (they play one semi current an hour) I wonder if there is an opening for KLCK to move toward a current leaning AAA. KLCK can go HOT-AC because it would hurt WARM and Movin. They can't go Mainstream CHR because it would hurt Movin. They could go AAA without changing a whole bunch, or blow it up and go ROCK which doesn't hurt WARM or Movin. Still would like to see Smooth Jazz return, but that will never happen.

When will The Mountain ever change? I honestly see don't much of a reason as to why it is still here and doing poor in the ratings.

And this is because....? Is it because Sandusky won't bother advertising the station after the 10,000 songs in a row promotion was done?

Will one of the smooth jazz "fans" out there PLEASE explain to me what the attraction is to music that is little more than Muzak with an artists name attached to it.
It's NOT "Jazz", I certainly wouldn't think of any major smooth Jazz artist when I hear someone say the word "Jazz", to me "smooth jazz" is a bastardized version of Jazz itself and really has no substance to it at all.
I suppose it's ok to listen to in an elevator or Doctors office but I for one can't imagine listeners getting excited about a particular song or call in with a request it just doesn't evoke passion.
That all being said it should be relegated to an HD station or perhaps a podcast station that way if someone out there MUST get their smooth jazz "fix" they have an outlet that the station can derive some revenue from and all parties win but as for having the air signal back broadcasting smooth jazz no way!

I want to know, too.

No, I think not...no one does much in terms of advertising these days...although ironically, Sandusky is the exception with TV running for WARM's Christmas music! I think their success has more to do with whether or not there is any real need or demand for the music they've been (or will be playing).
