Changes at KLUV???

I heard the same thing - he was just joking, because they were trying to trade off someone's trip to Greece. Tradio is usually only found on rural stations, the last time I heard it was on some rural 95.7 I picked up while trying to verify a reception report of a Tulsa 95.7.

True or perhaps" Na na Hey hey kiss him goodbye" is being retired along with "My Girl" The new format;"Korean Oldies"
 
Tonight, the lady DJ mentioned that Bob Schieffer was retiring shortly from CBS, and then made a comment in passing that if he needs work, KLUV might have an opening for him. Maybe KLUV is going all-news. ;D Or maybe the've just decided to simulcast KRLD...
 
This is an old top 40 trick. KLUV finally has some marketing bucks for the fall. Trust me this is just a desperate ploy to keep their P1's and hopefully gain some new listeners. This gimmick has been done before and while it may create some new lissteners the station eventually settles back into their normal numbers. :-[

I'm betting they will play more 70's/80's but don't look for any drastic changes even though the ratings in 25-54 are dismall. Some of the lowest in years. Plus they have lost some good talent lately. IE: Larry Dixon, Chuck Brinkman, Ron Chapman.
John Summers is doing fairly well in afternoons but ever since Summers left nights, nights have died. I've seen the last trend's dayparts and in KLUV'S REAL demos 35-64 they're #1 in every daypart by a long shot. At night they're #7 and 25-54 they barely show up! Summers had them #1 35-64. And his night 25-54 #'s were respectable.

Maybe the big announcement is they will increase their current rotation list from 125-150 :D

I know many of you know i'm from Houston and work for Clear Channel and i'm always digging at CBS, but the facts are the facts. Here's another thing i'm hearing about CBS. Whoever does the Jack station in Dallas is on his way out and they're already secretly looking for a new change at KVIL.

CBS is in big trouble in Houston and they're in big trouble in Dallas.

That's all it was - no change to KLUV's format, just the addition of an HD2 "Fab Format" - all Beatles all the time. I remember a station tried that in the Midland / Odessa market years ago - even changed their call letters to KBTL. It only lasted a couple of months. Now on HD2 - maybe it is viable.
 
I wonder what the licensing cost(s) is going to be on a venture like that...

Wasn't 1190 doing all Beatles for awhile while they were migrating between formats? I wonder how it worked out for them.

The question is whether the Fab Format will convince anyone to buy HD Radios. That's all anyone should consider when creating an HD2 station at this point. Until further notice, HD2's should be created with the sole purpose of dangling a carrot in front of potential HD Radio buyers.

Since KLUV already plays like 3 Beatles songs an hour, I'm not sure more Beatles is much of an incentive to buy a new radio. Plus, don't you think rabid Beatles fans who might consider throwing down $300 to hear an all Beatles format probably already own the entire Beatles cannon on CD?
 
Of course some you might remember "KFAB" on 104.9 in th e90's owned by one of the Marcos family members. One Computer and a hard drive with all Beatle songs as a group and individuals. It was a novelty then the novelty died. You may remember a few stations popping up across the country with an all Elvis format, they soon disappeared. I can't wait until they come up with an all "napoleon the fourteenth format" or "Tiny Tim".

Or worse yet - All "Archies" or all "Barry Manilow". Maybe all " Captain and Tenille". Or all "Michael Jackson". And one of those would convince an HD radio owner to toss their new HD radio out the window!

Maybe it would be a good idea for KLUV to actually HAVE an IBOC transmitter first! So far, CBS has lagged behind many others in getting this marvelous technology (HA!) on the air with much success. In fact, they've blown up the KRLD transmitter trying. But when you consider the engineering staff available for the tasks at hand, many things are explained...
