Changes at KONO?

I'm starting to hear a more 70s rock lean. I heard Styx and Frampton last week. Sounds like they are going towards the directon of K-Hits in Houston. They should change the jingles. I really liked the jingles at KLUV in the DFW area, where I have just returned from....no I'm not gona say how much their stations are better because I don't want to compare a big city to an even bigger city(ies). Now if only Jack would lay off the classic rock and sound more like Jack in Dallas.

If KONO would lay off of the Motown, I'd give them a button on my car radio.

I figure that Jack's rock is on the playlist to keep him skewing male and to reduce his overlap with Jammin'.

I don't know why KONO would want to be like K-HITS?! Their ratings are so much better than K-HITS. But, all oldies formatted stations seem to be evolving into "Classic Hits", "Classic Rock", or "Adult Hits". It's just the sign of the times. Given KONO's success, I wouldn't change that much. However, look at what happened to KTFM (the old KTFM). They did not evolve with the times, they got some competition and got dusted by The Beat 98.5 and when they tried to recover, it was too late. It's a tightrope walk, and we'll see when the ratings come out, if Cox's strategy paid off.

Speaking of Dallas, I think KLUV needs competition! Some of the personalities on there are really weak. I do like the Jingles. Same ones K-Earth uses here in Los Angeles. KONO jingles sound best though. I wished KONO would play more R&B. Not so much Motown but those classic
Soul Hits. Just enough to give them some Variety. Don't know if this Rock direction will work long term.

K-Earth really sounds good. Check them out sometime online!

K-EARTH 101 has always sounded good. I love "Shotgun" Tom Kelly. It's just a shame Robert W. Morgan and "The Real" Don Steele aren't around anymore. K-EARTH took off, where KHJ left off. I also think 3WS (WWSW/Pittsburgh) sounds good. They have a real nice variety of 60's & 70's working. Their presentation is a little broad, but it seems to be working for them. The numbers are fairly decent.

Speaking of changes at KONO...a friend of mine who works at KOOL in Phoenix said Roger Allan applied for the PD gig at KOOL. Apparently they have decided on someone else and they're negotiating a deal at this time.
