changes at KSPN

tom hoffarth reports from his blog that KSPN 710 is shaking up their line-up again. sound like more titanic style deck chair shuffling straight outta bristol. hey - synergy with m. wiley on TV. yawn.

to compete with petros & money is probably futile unless a younger socal voice can be brought in. ireland & mason are 50 plus or close to it and might be decent for long time LA sports listeners but won't draw new ones and are sounding tired and out of touch. however like hoffrath states, this probably is a corporate call and not based on anything else locally and might end up with 2008 type boomerang.

its pretty funny to see how long it takes to fill a vacancy in the ESPNverse these days. gottlieb nationally and now the KSPN 7PM slot. weird.

maybe there are post labor day lineup announcements coming...

Surprised to hear the news, I thought KSPN had been dominating KLAC in the overall ratings. Since I have yet to see a breakdown, I had assumed PMS wasn't doing too well. But that changed when Mason and Ireland started going with "Fast Track" and some other minor tweaks near the 3 o'clock hour. Guess they were getting tuned out by the demos they coveted.

Never liked Wiley, hope he's out of there. He's fine as a tv guy, but on the radio he must've been paid by the "mmm hmmm" "mmmmm" which was annoying sports radio. Hope that Max stays, he's actually made some in-roads with Laker fans.

In the core male 25-54 numbers, they have been in a near-statistical-tie position for many many books.

Thanks David, didn't realize it had been that close, it certainly sheds some light on why PD Thompson made some of those tweaks to M&I's show.

KSPN is terrible. Mason and Ireland have been on too long in this market and some of their "reporters" sound amateurish. L.A. sportsradio is at an all-time low. Disney must not pay much since their only decent talent Jeff Biggs is doing on-air updates for the new NBC Sports Radio Network (XPRS 1090 SD) and A. Martinez bailed for KPCC. For a station that has the Lakers and USC they should be blowing out KLAC in the ratings. I hope the rumors are true that CBS Sports Radio is coming to FM in L.A. next year.

Surprisingly, Marcellus is still on with Max Kellerman. The show is still annoying, but I have to say, less so over the last few months (did management tell them to tone it down?). Kellerman actually has some insightful analysis - it's clear he does his homework, and his radio skills have definitely improved. Wiley on the other hand, is an ex-jock. He shows up every day to be the sidekick and doesn't add anything to the show, except for the same run of the mill opinions you can get from any jock in any sports interview. If you have to go with the ex-jock route, Mychal Thomson would be a much better fit.

CBS Sports on FM in LA? Where? 94.7? I would be more inclined to simulcast all news KNX on 94.7 and see if they can bring down the demos and ramp up the revenues like WTOP/Washington DC did.
