Changes at Magic 98.9 mornings (what else is new)

So, it appears that the "John & Lauren" morning show is out at Magic 98.9 today. Looking at the website, Stacie Bartro slides from afternoons in to mornings 6am-12pm, with Lee Alexander moving in to afternoons 12pm-7pm.

Best wishes to both John and Lauren. This is the first morning show there to be "let go" in quite a while.

Kind of surprising. Although MY isn't pure AC anymore, their relatively new morning show is certainly not anything to write home about so there's little competition for that audience if they're looking for chat in the morning. Then again, maybe that's why Magic felt they could ditch John & Lauren.

If they plan to stick to an arrangement like this, maybe it's for the better. I don't mean for this to sound bad towards anybody who has done mornings there (recently), but with their failure to commit to a morning show, maybe it's best to move the established afternoon-driver in to mornings. That way you don't go bringing somebody else in, having the audience get connected with them somewhat, then having it change a year later.

92.5 WESC has done 6-7-hour shifts during the day for years and it seems to work for them. Stacie and Lee are both very good talent.

Well,...well,...well,...did anybody expect anything different? As I...somewhat predicted, and dreaded. For me, I felt that these two young, second generation, broadcasters deserved a fair chance at success. However, they were doomed to fail because of that Awww-ful playlist. I have vented countless times for someone with some starch to order an overhaul of that Burnt, Toasted,
(Oh no! Not again!) Overplayed sack of crap. Regardless of their performance, Ellis & Morris, were basically Gunfighters, without bullets. Much like the Bo Griffin dive, again Entercom, you just handed it over to MY; and did B-93 a good turn, in the process.
Again, Stop killing the Messengers. The problem is the Message!...That Awww-ful Playlist!

I would just like to know why. Since this wasn't part of national cuts, I can only assume the numbers were bad (trends just came out)...I'm sure they had their reasons. Mornings are so volatile there, but they've rarely just dismissed someone entirely like today. They have lost all credibility in AM drive, period.

I don't know about the average listener but I find it hard to take anything they do in mornings seriously. Moving the somewhat long-time PM driver and APD in to mornings is about the safest thing they can do at this point.

I wonder what Bill Love is up to these days...

The axe was not just swung at Magic. Kaci Kruz, who did 12pm-4pm at B93.7, is also out and has been replaced by Tias, the Magic/B PD, from 10-3 with another hour of Ryan Seacrest, now 3-7.

Last week, I (painfully) listened a good bit to B-93. Monitoring different dayparts, trying to get a sensible read of where they were coming from. As for the ankling of Kaci Kruz, strapped with another hour add to the Ryan-Westcoast Fluff, Lifestyle, and Horse Manure Show,...I could not care less! Much like MAGIC, their playlist is just label fodder. A National list obeyed, instead of Programmed by this new PD. He has been in charge since mid-February, yet MAGIC still sounds the same, and is still not blazing a trail! So, if both MAGIC, and B-93 are loosing their ass, why is he still sqeaking-out a paycheck? So, Entercom, what are you paying him for?
Apparently, he can't do the job. So, fire him, and hire someone who can! Demand results! Other companies do!

Hi friends. It's been a week since Torture Wesnesday, and believe it or not, the earth still spins. Wanted to thank you guys for the kind words. Hey.....we did all we could, but I have seen too many good jocks fired to be shocked.

Stacie, Lee, Reggie.....Magic is in very good hands. I'll take a breather and pop back up on-air soon enough. Again, appreciate the support.

And how's Lauren Morris?

Once again, I'll put my size 12 footprint in on this mess. Bo & Lauren didn't work. Their attempt, with that Awww-ful playlist in tow. Poor Lauren...what pencilneck thought for one moment that
Bo McDonald was Air Talent? However, John Ellis has Talent, and just needed a chance; an honest chance! So, John & Lauren didn't work. Their attempt, with that Awww-ful playlist in tow.
Am I the only one that sees a pattern here? As I said in an earlier post: It's not the Messengers,
it's the Message! That Awww-ful, burnt, toasted, overplayed, lame, never changing-in need of a full overhaul, hemroidal Consultant driven, limp-wristed, doornob sucking, Oprah Winfrey watchin',
never seeing a 10-share, Chicken Shh--Manure...playlist!
Now,...you don't have to sit in your office, and wonder what's wrong!

Wondering why...wondering why we can't get the audience...that's out there????Hmmmmmmmm????????? I wonder why we can't get the numbers that the two Countrys have? Answer: You are still following the whims of the labels, that are telling you that this________is a Country Crossover record. MAGIC is still granting airplay to a stack of worthless Country Crossover records. This causes format confusion, and solidifies their format, as your airplay backs it up. Each book they have 9, and you have a 5. As I have said before, if they are marketed as a Country artist, no AC airplay. Aside from that, the playlist is Burnt!..."We Are Fam-il-lee", "Your Smiling Face",
"Margaritaville"...give these a rest, and add something else.
The problem is your playlist, not your Air Talent. John & Lauren did not fail, the playlist failed them! Fire the Consultant!
...or hire me, and I'll Throwwwwwwwww him out!

Who is doing what at WSPA-FM now? According to Lee Alexander on their Facebook page, Stacie is back to afternoons, and I guess Lee is back to mid-days instead of noon to 7, and Greg McKinney (formerly of Lite Rock 98.9 late 90s, then MY early-mid 00s) is doing mornings, I don't know if he is fill-in or permanent, but good to hear.

This station has potential, but until they get programming/management that is knowledgeable about the format, it will continue to struggle.

A good question, regardless..., is...Do They Know? Does the Management, and Programmer of WSPA-FM actually know, and understand how far down in the crack their station is? Are you that broke? You fired your Morning team, without having anyone(!) else on deck. Then, overwork Lee & Stacie. I've heard Greg McKinney on some. He too wants a good paycheck. Put him on, and Pay him! He's certainly better suited than his fill-ins at WROQ. He's really not a Rock guy...he drinks diet beer, and listens to Jazz. Wait!...he's still a damn good Radio Announcer, per ME! If he was swiggin' wine coolers, and his ipod was full of Yanni, we'd have to question his manhood, and of coarse...then...we would have beat him...fifty lashes, with THE CAT OF NINE SHARES!
What I don't understand is this: If Greg is available to work, and you have a shift (more than)available, then,...as I said...Put him on, and Pay him!
Again, I ask...ARE YOU THAT BROKE?

The issue with this station is that the music they play is so stale and poorly selected. It's been our "background music" for years and they never change ANYTHING these days. I understand that familiarity is important in the AC format, but they are beyond stale. "Electric Aveneue"..."Cruel Summer"..."Mambo 5"..."I'm Yours"...over and over. It sounds like they have a playlist of about 200 songs, made it a year ago, and have run it on shuffle since. The issues here lie with the music selection. The liners are decent, the personalities are good (the lineup is pretty good) but if what's between those isn't any good, you won't succeed. You have to freshen and update on occasion. From everything I've seen/heard/read, Entercom does a good job with their AC stations in other markets, why is this one allowed to slide so?

AC used to be a huge format in this market...it still could be if somebody would open their eyes. Look at its continued success in other mid-sized markets in the south. Programming is key but they apparently don't want to invest in it.

First off, I completely agree with Carolinaradio. Please read his dead-on post. Collectively, we, and I'm sure that there are more...agree that MAGIC's problem is not Air Staff, but their Awww-ful, Shallow, Unmanaged playlist. The problem is understood, but why doesn't Management do something to solve it? They have to be aware of the fact that they are...LOOOOOOO-SING THEIR ASS!
Always, without fail, the overhead Monster shows-up once a month, wearing a t-shirt that states clearly: "Payroll Is Due On Thursday!".
