Changes at Magic Mornings

John Ellis (son of WSSL's Bill) will take over the Magic Morning Show on Monday alongside Lauren Morris (daughter of WFBC's Heidi Aiken).

Let's see....I think this is morning show/morning show variation #7 in the past 10 years...

I have always been able to separate the Personal from the Professional, and with that said, read this rant, with that in mind:
No matter what Morning announcer or team you plug in, nothing is going to work, until their GM, John Burkavage, decides to hire a PD that knows his/her...SHIT! The playlist is a sick joke, and if you have to switch on the cattle prod to make Mornings Local, Current, Exciting, and laced with
TOMA...then turn it on, and let the fannies start sizzlin'!
IT'S NOT THE CAR...IT'S THE GAS!
Scooter Lesley.

Well, something's working, as in the last book 12+ they WERE the highest rated Entercom station. I agree about the less than stellar playlist, especially lately. I only notice big changes about once a year.
As a side note, Bo is still going to be with them, doing weekends.

To be honest, this is sad, but I find Magic to be the most listenable of all of the Entercom stations. 93.3 is just pathetic, ROQ is tired and 106.3...'nuff said. 93.7 may not be that bad, but I'm not a fan of all of the rhythmic material...they are 'hits', though.

Funny how a young duo takes over a morning show for a station that should be catering to their parents (while the aging Hawk & Tom ....with Heidi continue to try to appeal to B93.7's younger target demo).

I wonder if this in any way an attempt to take a stab at the audience of MY's recent younger-leaning sound. Yes, Magic has been adding more currents, but they're still largely a slower, older-leaning mix that's not in the same almost-Hot AC category that 102.5 has put itself in.

On a personal note, while my kids still favor Hawk and Tom (even as their humor sags with their age), I prefer the more music with no morning show approach of MY.

Hey Scooter.....I agree 100%. I see no point in dancing around the hard cold facts,
although it applies to the other stations in the market too. I mean, what
is in place to prevent people from "going to the Ipod"?

"how does someone go from not being in radio to part time weekends to the morning show in a matter of weeks?"

Hey Freqdev.....I agree. How??? LOL That's radio now. The less you know, the more they want you.
"From intern to PD in 18 months"! Hahaha! A ton of experience threatens em!

That's the "Magic" way. Bo did weekends at B93.7 before suddenly moving to mornings at Magic. Monnie had a co-host for a while who went from overnights at the B then moved to that position suddenly.

Doesn't seem to affect their ratings, as their numbers have been decent in the past couple of years for the most part. They seem to place higher than they used to. Better than when they had TK & Monnie, Monnie, certainly better than Bo Griffin and if memory serves correctly the station does better now than back in the early-mid 2000s when they had Rick and Kimberly, who were both very good. If they can get the numbers without having to spend much $$, more power to them, I guess.

could be because the morning show is only 2 hrs. they want to be an at work station so why spend alot of money for those hours that aren't important to their image

Radio is so poorly ran today that they celebrate when they get a thimble full of suck-sess. This "Bo" subject went from weekends to mornings, in a short period of time;...and now,...what?...it didn't work, and back to school.
A classic case of accessability over talent. What I wanna know is the name of the Boob,...that thought(?)...that he could...to start with!
It's not personal, just business. However, Bo,...Joe,...or Shemp could have had a better showing, if the GM/PD would place them to work 6a-10a,...as slated by Arbitron. Either of the two AC's could grind on the two Countrys...if they would execute the full four rated hours. The 2+hour (only) Morning show is obviously the idea of a Consultant that doesn't know Shit from Apple Butter!

True. Since the station changes morning shows so often, the numbers are probably better off by not focusing much on it

As for a full 6am-10am morning show, I don't know if it'd be worth it. Like I said, they had Rick and Kimberly for 4 hours (who were great) for quite a while until 2005. I don't remember 98.9 getting shares near what they have in the past couple of years when R&K were on. I think they're better off letting the music take over at 8am.

Magic has had a younger morning show since last year. I think it's more of a financial decision as they can get these guys in for much less money than someone who would be older, and more than likely, more experienced.
I've been noticing Magic's more upbeat sound with more currents lately. They also push "family friendly", which I take as a stab at MY as some of their songs aren't really 'kid safe' to a lot, I guess.

Hawk and Tom just seem like yesterday's news. Same old, same old. I like MY in the morning, as well.

Well, you can tell how much I've listened to Magic in the morning. And, yeah, Hawk and Tom are yesterday's news, but somehow keep the interest of my kids enough that I'm frowned upon if I change the station driving the kids to school in the morning.

Oh, my! I sure hope the food manufacturer knows the difference with Apple Butter without just looking at it!
