According to allaccess Corey Garrison is out and is replaced by Randi Kirshbaum in middays, and Ethan Minton is now APD.

huh

Now THERE'S something we can all feel indifferent about. So which station will Ethan Minton be saying his name on 2-3 times per break?

And don't forget "and I'm Mike Roberts" on Frank fm. Who holds the record for saying their own name the most?

To me it's not how many times he says it...it's how S...L...O....W

and D...E...L...I...B...E...R...A...T...E he is; accentuing every syllable. It's PAINFULL.

I definitely don't see him returning to a Hot AC.

That's sad about Corey. I liked to listen to him after Chuck Igo. Corey made the format more interesting. Can't say the same about "Gary, the K"---who bore no resemblance to rock 'n' roll legend, MURRAY,THE K! The repetition of G.T.K. got very tired...very quickly!

Let's see? With Randi doing mid-days, does this mean 'oldies listeners' are going to experience..."RANDI, THE K?" Or should we just reference her as "Portland's original classic rock 'n' roll mama???" [I know that SAGA is big on slogans so this immediately came to mind!].

Of course Ethan can always avoid 'the name repetition thing' with "MY NAME IS ETHAN MINTON AND YOU'RE NOT"------assuming he can get 'broadcast clearance' from comedian, Chevy Chase?

I agree with you about Corey. He really sounded good on the air, smooth delivery and great energy. With Ken Mcgrail & Mike Russell gone the energy has dissappeared from Oldies 100.9.Corey would have sounded much better in the afternoon than Gary the K.With Barbara Ouellette at night and with Randi comming to middays,it's begining to sound like the old 93.1.I hope they don't put Ethan on.If we start getting an overdose of Jackson Brown and Bonnie Raitt, you know where were headed.

Do you think the OLDIES 100.9 music will eventually evolve into less 'classic rock 'n' roll' and gradually shift over to more 70s and 80s music...similar to the former WGMX format? Ethan has good on-air presence...but do you think it honestly works with Chuck Berry and The Beatles?

Just a side comment connected to another Saga radio station.

Has anybody noticed that the way the music on THE ALL-NEW COAST 93.1 is being promoted---sounds incredibly similar to the way the music USED to be promoted on the "OLD 93.1--WMGX??? While the majority of the tunes programmed on the new "coast" format have considerably more energy...the recorded promos sound rather soft!

The morning show is a little better, the jingles are good...but the majority of the "canned liner card readers" should take a hike!

Their enthusiasm for the new format sounds a little too P-H-O-N-E-Y---at least to me?

That makes no sense. Why would Saga blow up WMGX and then flip Oldies to what 93.1 used to be? If they would do that, then why not blow up Oldies in the first place. I gotta believe they are smarter than that... although you are talking about radio! :)

Are you kidding? Are you listening to the same radio station I am? I hear lots of high energy production (sweepers/jingles) to go with the music.

BTW, what's the deal with the Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, etc.? I hear a country song and I am gone... but I am loving the 80's stuff on 93.1.

And some of those segues (there actually are segues, too--not all jingles and sweepers) are pretty interesting. Nice to hear some different stuff on the radio. How many times can you hear "Piano Man" anyway?

Precisely my point. Considering the desire some broadcast groups have for a certain age demographic (usually younger)---that's why I brought this up. An oldies format has a tendency to attract.......err....."more seasoned listeners as opposed to the younger demos?

The jingles and sweepers ARE high energy. But while the jingles stand very well on their own....the voiceover sweepers are A BIT MUCH! Kinda like those Dave & Wally car spots you see on TV!

YOU brought up something I completely missed, Shemp. Although if you take their slogan: "the best of the 80s, 90s and today" seriously...the music could include PRACTICALLY ANYTHING!

Maybe I'm catching them at the wrong time? But I listened at several times during the weekend and always caught a "canned sweeper" or a jingle between every song. If there WERE SEGUES....they must've happened spontaneously?

By the way..."Piano Man" as an intrumental is probably one of the most boring songs ever written. Like so many other '70s story songs'---the lyrics make Billy Joel's signature tune a whole lot better than it actually is.
