Changes at PLR

I agree. They should have cleared out the idiots on the morning show and dumped Lapatino. I thought Pam Landry was fun to listen to, she was the only one I even tuned into on that corpse of a station.

Update: I was just told Billy Winn is also out on the morning show. I can't confirm this but it makes more sense than letting Pam Landry go. One less unfunny person on that sorry excuse for a morning show.

Let the firings begin! or in this case continue ;D PLR has been in the classic rock dumper for many years.
Cellular Billy should have been told to take the train years ago. Adds nothing to that lame excuse for a morning show. Sorry to see Pam Landry go. Another stupid move by Cox management. ::)

Does this mean that 99.1 is going to have to change its call letters?

Why was jesse on yesterday instead of Wiggy...no explanations..i stopped listening to chaz and AJ a year ago..they cant control thier listeners. now with landry gone, it might be time for sirrius

WPLR=We Program Lousy Radio. This station is in total discombobulation. It starts with the top baffoon and descends into the programming abyss. This station makes college radio stations sound major market. What
a pathetic excuse for a station! ::) ;D

Not sure why Wiggy isn't on. The site still says that he is on mid days. All I know is that if they are going to put Jesse on mid days I'm done listening. Listening to Jesse is like putting Mr Rogers on a rock station. I could never understand how they put him on the air.

The PD is grasping at straws. He has to have a warm and breathing body to fill the gap between the morning and afternoon shows. 10a-1p will eventually be voice tracked and when the dust finally settles, Cox will have ruined yet another station.

At this point I can't blame the PD since he has only been there a couple months. I don't know much about him but knowing the other stations that he has been I can come to the conclusion that he is not a big fan of voice tracking. So I don't think the mid day spot will be voice tracked however I do not think it will be a full time position again. I think Radio stations are concentrating on morning show revenue and afternoon drive.

That being said I don't think a new PD with any brains would come in and dump a listener favorite like Pam Landry. Seeing that she was at PLR for almost 20 years I am guessing that she had a pretty good salary. I have to think that this decision came from the higher ups at COX.

If anyone out there wanted to start a rock station in CT(non corporate owned) and they had any brains in there head they could blow PLR out of the water. No rotating songs, no testing of songs with these idiot focus groups. Just play all the great rock songs that are out there that nobody else has the brains to play. NEWS FLASH , Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, and the Stones have recorded more than 4 songs each!!!! Jimi Hendrix also recorded more than "Fire"

Its actually refreshing to see this board display a sense of sympathy towards someones dismissal. Far too often these decisions are met with a less than postive attitude. I'm sure that speaks to the type of person that Pam Landry was.
Now what I don't understand is this: According to the New Haven Register, the cut was due to low ad revenue. While that would be a valid reason, why cut a person who consistently delivered high ratings for the station. Am I wrong in thinking that ratings translate into increased ads for that show? If I was a business owner and had money to spend on advertising, I would prefer a show that was shown to have a large listenership.

This is a directive that was handed down by Cox in Ga. The corporate fat cats felt that Landry was making too much money and decided not to re-new her contract. Same thing for Billy Winn, etc etc. It's just another way to cut costs.
I wonder how Lappy feels about working 1p-8p. A 7 hour shift! Yikes! What's next?
Morning drive from 6a-12? Yes, all for the love of being on the radio. To get your ego massaged and yet not make enough money for a monthly mortgage payment. ::)

I wouldn't believe everything I read in the Register :) They may not have their facts right, and it wouldn't be the first time. It was in interesting article though. They also talk about Con-cast's decision to yank WNET-13 off the analog service and move it to digital, as well as blowing up Fox 5 completely for us here in New Haven.

Good Day New York with Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto on Fox 5 WNYW is a far better morning show than Fox 61's local yokel show. So by cutting Fox 5, Comcast and the corporate suits at WTIC think people will be forced to watch the garbage on Fox 61. Newsflash, not happening! ;D

I gather that the problem is that advertisers just aren't spending on ANY time slot, no matter what the ratings. In this economy, businesses are in hunker-down, survival mode and have slashed or even eliminated advertising budgets.

Radio groups are reporting first quarter reports that are down as much as 25% year-to-date.
