What I would do

If I were Popovich, this is what I would do with "The Q"

Mornings: Either start fresh and clean or pair Rebecca up with someone good. Allan has to be removed ASAP.

Middays: If Sommers is coming back...put her there, if not, another great hire is in order

Afternoons: Toohey

Nights: Put John Connor back where he sounds best, and where he can start his "After Work Party" show again. Drop Leeza at Night and give him back the full 7-Midnight.

Weekends: Keep Alli, Rick Allen, and Jamie. Pull Ken and Randal Scott...as well as Wilde and Fee Weekends. Do something different for Saturday night, and get something syndicated and different for Sunday morning to spice it up, and a few good part timers to fill the rest of the weekends.

Bumper doesn't have as many clients as he did years ago. WMJI is his biggest.

Lets add this to your anti-Fee tirades of the last year.

Don't be surprised if everyone involved, including Fee,
was happy about his commitment and focus on mornings.

Allan can focus full-time on the show, and WQAL now has an excellent programmer in Dave Popovich. It's a win-win for all parties.

I do take issue with the best-of weekend replays on BOTH Saturday and Sunday. Maybe just air it on Saturdays, as has been the case with WKDD's Mark Patrick, well, forever... Sundays 7a-10a could really be a nifty time to air John Connor's Top-20 countdown, for example.

Weekend "Best Of's"

As I do, too! When I see that a station is re-hashing the alleged "best bits" from the past week (that is not a potshot at WQAL at all), that tells me that your part-time/weekend staff SUCKS and the PD has no faith in any of them to do this daypart. It's no different than when a station airs all sweepers.

Does research really show that the core audience likes this? I can see a well-established morning show (i.e. Matt Patrick), but even then, I'd cut it to 2 or 3 hours. Just because you have a morning show doesn't give the "green light" for a "Best of" show on the weekend. The listening habits (particularly of the HAC core) are so sporadic and is constantly turning over because they're so busy with family stuff (dropping kids off at events, shopping, etc.), I don't see any advantage in this over having a solid weekender entertaining your audience.
