Changes At Smooth Jazz KMYT?

I have been listening to KMYT 94.5 in Temecula for last two to three hours and been hearing lots of instrumental songs and hardly little, if any, vocal songs. Haven't heard no Smooth Jazz Network djs like Allen Kelper or Maria Lopez, they aren't even listed under the On Air tab anymore.

Now, I have no problem with what they are doing, wonder how long they have been doing this? I read on Greg Cozzo twitter account, I believe it was last week, that he was making some changes at 94.5 KMYT. (If I knew how to post that, I would. :) ) Don't know if this was it or not?

I looked it up and see that KMYT is owned by Clear Channel. Perhaps they are using the same feed the new 'JJZ 1480 AM is using in Philadelphia. Mostly instrumentals. Hardly any vocals. Very very current heavy (you'll hear the big songs about 3 times a day). But it's a fair tradeoff for a more "pure" version of the format, in my humble opinion. I forget the name of the feed that 'JJZ uses but it's part of the I-Heart radio platform from what I understand.

I have no issue with guys being "currents heavy." Plenty of REAL good new music out there. WSBZ does a great job in this regard, as does KOAZ -- though they also choose to spin a lot of older album cuts as well -- more balance of the new with the old, which I personally prefer. That said, 3 times a day? Yikes. I can tell you I have gotten flamed for rolling out cuts 3 times in a week let alone 3 times in a day. I know that traditional terrestrial radio guys try to strike the iron while it is hot, but my personal philosophy is to "nurture" new cuts and not beat them into the ground. That seems to resonate with my base listeners and gives those cuts a longer shelf life, IMO. But as the old saying goes, different strokes for different folks!! ;D

I78 - You're probably right about using the same feed like JJZ. They were playing a lot of currents.

AC - Totally agree with a balance of old and new music, believe you can say that about any format.
