Changes at Sporting News Radio Effective 8/15/05

Sporting News Radio will be having a few changes this coming Monday

- A new lineup which features the popular Tony Bruno Show, and time changes for the James Brown/Jeff Rickard Show.
Jeff Rickard's show moves to East Coast Morning Drive 6AM - 9AM EST, he will be joined with co-host and flash anchor Bill Lekas
Tony Bruno's Show will air 9AM - 1PM EST (6AM-10AM PST) joined by Mark Willard and James Brown's Show from 1PM - 3PM EST

The previous rumor stating Kiley & Booms' move to SNR was a bit premature, nothing has been settled with them as of yet and the evening lineup will stay the same for now.

Also, the clocks will be slightly changed, eliminating the fourth segment of the hour, previously there used to be a break at :52 past the hour and the show would resume at :57 past the hour. Now, the third segment will be extended and will end for the hour at :56 past.

New jingles will be implemented for the Sporting News Flash and start/end of the shows.

Glad to see that awful Murray in the Morning gone. I liked Murray when he was on the weekends with Berger, but the morning show sucked, imo.

The first part of the changes, albeit minor, was that Dude Walker, SNR's regular VO guy, did the opening for Tony Bruno's show, and Dude rarely does VO for KMPC.

I so agree with you. I liked Murray on the weekends with Berger and I thought he did a great job with Troy Aikman on Thursday afternoons. But imo also, MITM was horrible. They should have stuck with talking sports and not tried to be Howard Stern-esque. Taking MITM off the air should have been done long ago!

I tried to listen to MITM on numerous occassions, but it was truly horrible, but not horrible enough to listen to Van Earl Wright. But come Monday, all is good with the world with Bruno returning. There hasn't been a good morning sports program since Ashwood got the 'brilliant' idea not to renew Tony's contract. AA said the VEW was 'a good fit' for FSR. What that really meant was that VEW works cheap, not that he was any good, but works cheap. Anyone who remembered him from his CNN days, could only handle his annoying act for the 5 minute sports update every hour and that was it. For me, here in San Antonio, my XM radio will be put to better use. For those of you who do not have XM, listen to Tony on the sports station in New Braunfel, 1420.

I could not agree more. I liked Murray on the weekend but hated his morning show. I know this sounds harsh, but for my tastes "Murray in the Morning" was the worst thing I ever heard on the radio period.

We live in a niched world. When I turn on sports radio I want to hear sports discussed. From listening to him on the weekend, it was obvious that Murray knows his sports. That's why it was so painful to hear him do a light chatter non-sports show. I especially hated hearing his crew talk about what they did over the weekend, the dates they went on and anything else related to their personal lives.

"Murray in the morning" represents everything thats wrong with sports radio. I don't blame Murray himself, I blame whoever came up with the concept of that show. Bruno will be a huge improvement, he's very funny, witty, and entertaining AND he keeps his show focused on sports. SNR is replacing the worst with the best.
