Changes at the Point

http://www.arkansasbusiness.com/article.aspx?aID=131396.54928.143541

Steve Jonsson, vice president of Signal Media and general manager of Little Rock sports station KABZ-FM, 103.7 (The Buzz), on Monday took on the additional role of general manager for Signal Media's two other Little Rock-market stations.

Jonsson replaced Randy Bush, who was general manager of classic rock station KKPT-FM, 94.1 (The Point) and R&B and oldies station KHLR-FM, 106.7 (Heartbeat) for about 18 months.

Signal Media laid off Bush as a cost-cutting measure, Jonsson said. Bush's final day was Friday.

Jonsson has worked for Signal Media since 2003 and is the son of the media company's owner, Philip Jonsson.

====================

Some of us will remember that Randy Bush was the new GM that canceled Beaker Street and fired the morning crew on the Point. I guess some of those changes didn't work out so well.

Reckon that dynamic, take-charge, aggressive, hands-on, make-some-changes-just-to-show-I'm-in-command management style ain't what it used to be, eh? But wait. Since when are costs cut from the top?

Randy Bush will be forever known as the guy that killed Beaker Street 2.0 (the version on various Central AR FM stations since 1987). I hate that Clyde was unable to find another station for Beaker (even non-coms such as KABF or KUAR).

Makes one wonder whether Beaker Street could stage a comeback in the future now that things have changed?

I miss Clyde too. :'(
