Changes at The River

The cuts continue. So I guess they must be gone, since Todd has been named assistant PD and took over the production slot

Still, point is... their commitment to non local radio continues

It also seems the morning show is the same channel that Martha Hadley is on too in Seattle.
I totally agree that the WCVO has gone down hill since Dan and Tracy are no longer doing the morning show.
They have lost my financial support till somethings change.

Also I am hooked to 91.5. I really like it. Its nice just to hear music and not commercials. I know it wont be long till its all talk or whatever again, but its nice....

It is the same station as Martha Hadley. Both originate from KCMS in Seattle

I am glad you are local Jake and Sherry too. I do like both shows.

I just cannot get into the groove of the River with commercials and chit chats.
I also liked when they had Praise and Worship music on Sundays. That always got us in the mood for church.

I miss the P&W on Sunday mornings too! They did that too right when they started to move towards more music.

Yeah the spot load makes me change channels when I am in the car. WCVO at times (and i know from a $$$ stand point no one will complain) but you guys have wayyyy to much commericals per spot block, as bad as Clear Channel used to be on top of asking for $$$$ as a listeners supported station... I find myself flipping over to 95.1 WVXG when I am in the area to hear it (north end of columbus) as their spot load is lower but pretty much the same playlist (give or take, or flipping to 91.5 as they now have music.

95.1 is the river also... it is part of the network which also includes 92.7 in Zanesville

Read on hisair.net that WCVO plans to move into new studios Mid-Nov.

This evening on the drive home, if I heard correctly, Jake Sommers said that the old building is basically empty except for him an another person, so apparently, with the exception of the studio, it sounds as if they are all but moved now.

Their driving directions link on their website still points to 4400 Reynoldsburg New Albany Rd :) guess their not completely moved yet.

The construction referenced is at the corner of Johnstown Road and Clotts Road, just northeast of Hamilton (the former Re/Max building). Sign out front proclaiming, in part, "The New Home of 104.9 The River" (including appropriate logo, font and colors [nice job!]) with work trucks as of this morning (10/22). Noticed a piling in the back of the building, which I assume will be for the STL tower (short hop) and the dumpsters for old construction materials were mostly gone.

Why do I know in such detail? I live around the corner from the site, and drive past on my way to work each day.

sure sure your just inchin to leave WCOL :) Just kidding!!

I would assume they would STL (the short distance) to the current tower until their app is approved to move to a possible new tower site off Harlem rd in Westerville.

I wouldn't be shocked if the current building is not leveled after they move out (leaving a small shack for their transmitter/stl equip) I know the talk of them moving has been around for years.

I was listening to Scott and Sam online from their Seattle station and discovered that their bits are actually recorded and played back the next day (or later) on The River. It doesn't sound very cohesive. I also wonder about their afternoons (Jake). He's the last live jock at the station and even his show is partially voice tracked. Sad stuff. :'(

That is sad about Jake :(

I have to be honest, I stopped giving money to the River after they fired Dan Swander (Not to bring hard feelings for anyone). I feel there has been a change going on there and I am not comfortable donating to the station.

Thats what they used to do with Todd and Sheri on 95.1 and 92.7 they played back bits from their shows that where on the river.

I would think LIVE and LOCAL mornings would be the way to go... at least in a market this size.

Hi all,

I am actually live all 4 hours. Very rarely I will VT my last hour to be able to get to an appearance.

The changes are for the best...really.

Jake

Whether the changes are for the bettor or not rermains to be seen. Telling people they're for the better doesn't make it so. It's like the fans of the 25th ranked football team shouting, "We're number one!" Saying it loud or often won't make it true. Personally, I don't think the station sounds better. If you listen to the morning show you can almost hear the duct tape they use to hold it together. For me, prerecorded "bits" don't do the trick. There's something missing here. I'm also not a big fan of syndication, but there is a right way to do it. They should abandon their efforts to try to fool people into making it sound live. If it's networked, it's networked. Focus on doing that right. So far, they're off the mark.
