Changes at Townsquare and are the Pegulas buying the Cumulus cluster?

Golly, the whole "Mix" thing failed in Buffalo again? Never saw that coming. It'll be interesting to see if Dave Universal lands another radio job. His track record so far is sketchy at best. Especially with that whole "payola" episode in his past.

Most of the FM dial is a failure. Mix (or mixed up) describes the Delilah program pretty well. You get one good song from Delilah from the 80's and then they "mix" in some refuse from 2015 following that. If you want to hear the same show without the Beyonce songs, you can listen to it on WECK 1230. As long as there isn't a basketball game.

There is one - yes ONE - AM radio station that does any business in Buffalo. The number of listeners and money that FM brings in dwarfs the impact of AM.

Mix may be a mess, but it's light years ahead of WWKB - a 50KW giant left languishing on life support by the same people who have turned Buffalo's "News Station" into a right-wing propaganda outlet.

I listen to WECK on 102.9. They've got a nice FM translator that covers the metro pretty well. They replaced "Alternative 107.7" on my car radio. I realize that's likely a function of age, but they're more interesting for the occasional scan than the Alternative.

Mr. Universal pours his heart out to RAMP: https://t.e2ma.net/message/ixxz4/eu47b9

An excerpt:

"I'm also proud of how we flipped (WJYE) from Joy to Mix, and the women numbers showed it was working."

And:

"Being on the air and programming WMSX was a dream job -- I would have done it for free! Unfortunately when the local guys who hired you are no longer around, it can be tough, and I totally respect new people wanting to pick their own QB."

A knowledgeable media rep indicates that Mix topped Star Women 25-54 and 35-54. Town Square is leveraged, although not nearly as severe as Cumulus and iHeart, with Goldman Sachs entering the picture last week. The Buffalo cluster is undergoing a culture change directed by Williams. It happens. Universal paid his dues for past transgressions and deserves credit for taking orders to re-invent an AC station, re-positioning it and trying to make it work. No easy task.

Universal said he'd work for free?
Surprised they didn't take him up on that offer.
He's a legend in his mind?

Hot AC, Warm AC, Tepid AC...
They're all interchangeable and forgettable...

Not impressed with people who pat themselves on the back
for mediocrity. Universal "pouring out his heart" is ridiculous.
Is he that naive about corporate radio?
He can always try another market.

Buffalo radio has many self absorbed personalities that talk loud
and say nothing. Other markets do as well.
On a positive note, WBFO offers very good local content that
compliments the high quality NPR programming...

WWKB 1520 has little to no significance anymore. What is left on that station besides Brenda's Bites? Not sure about Jay Richards, a far radical left wing WBEN news anchor used to be a guest on that show but not sure since he left, and I don't listen.

You still have WBEN, WECK, WJJL. And I don't listen to only Buffalo stations, so I am thinking of WHAM, WTAM, WRVA, KMOX...anything to stay off the FM dial.
