Changes at WATR Waterbury.

"Precious and Few" by Climax was played 2 times between 1030 - 1130p on 03/02/23. I don't listen consistently all day, but, when I do (especially in the late evenings) I notice the repetition - even though it has been less than the past few weeks.

Sorry for repeating the same post!

What i suspect is happenign here is they dont have a ton of music in the schedu;ling program and they dont have "rules" set up n(IE: dont play the same artist or song within X amount of time)

I spent some quality time listening to WATR 97.7 while out running errands yesterday afternoon. They sound flat and quieter compared to 1320-AM. Some of the music was good. Other times I had to check my pulse to make sure I was still alive. While tuned in yesterday I heard them play "Xanadu" by Olivia Newton John - a song that I haven't heard in a while, which is kind of unusual since there are 3 other stations in Hartford that play some 80s music including 96.1, 100.5, and 105.9.

The other day I also heard WATR play "Kentucky Rain" by Elivs - another song I haven't heard in quite a while.

97.7 also does not broadcast in stereo just like its step sister station Viva 106.3 (WWCO/1240) I call Viva a step sister to WATR rather than sister because WATR is owned vy David Webster and another guy (Curtis Jackson?) WhileViva is owned by David Webster through his Trigniton Media.

I also wonder why WATR doesn't have either some voicetracked jocks or satellite programming.

Agreed 97.7 sounds flat & quiet (even on Alexa). WATR has a unique Gold AC playlist - almost like the MOR (Middle Of The Road) format of decades ago. You probably know "Xanadu" by Olivia Newton-John was also a movie. PD Tom Chute programs the greatest show-biz singers of all time! That's what makes the format unique! Olivia, Cher, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick, Aretha, Karen Carpenter, Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand, Gloria Estefan, Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, Smokey Robinson, etc. Owners David Webster & Kurt Jackson said it was a monetary decision to drop satellite programming. It costs $ & isn't local.

"Living In America" by James Brown was played twice between 11-11:15pm on Tues., 3/21, & "Everyday" by James Taylor was played "Back To Back" or otherwise known as a "Twin Spin" @12:20am on Wed., 3/22

I just noticed that 97.7 FM is now broadcasting in stereo . However the feed is still mono as there is no stereo separation in the music.
The 97.7 signal has been terrible since 97.7 first signed on in the lower lying parts of Waterbury and Naugatuck especially near route 8 and the Naugatuck river.
The stereo signal will just mean more static.

Well, that will happen with some stuf up on West Peak in Meriden... low power and high up, itll overshoot some people.

A Plus - Programming more Motown!

A Minus - Still experiencing issues with repetition - "I'm Every Woman" by Whitney Houston was played twice in the 11pm hour on Tues., 04/12/23

Spent quality time listening to WATR on 97.7 while out and about yesterday afternoon. There weren't any hourly news updates from ABC News. And during the 2PM hour a male announcer spoke about Kevin Costner's divorce after the song I Love you Always Forever by Donna Lewis finished playing. The male announcer did not give his name.

The signal started fading in and out in New Britain. Of course 5that doesn't surprise me as 2 other translators on Meriden Mountain fade in and out in New Britain. The others being Kool Radio on 96.1 and Bomba on 98.5

Anyway back to WATR. I heard whom I believed was the same announcer I heard during the 2PM hour talking during the 11PM hour. This time he was talking about Prince Harry and The Coronation. Again there was no ABC News update.

P.S. If you told me 5 years ago WATR would one day be playing I Love you Always Forever by Donna Lewis, I would've called you a liar. The song came out in the mid 90s while I was in high school. Previously any music WATR was playing didn't go past the 70s.

On Mon., 05/08/23, I noticed the automated programming has been replaced with a provider that includes various hosts, more music variety, & news of interest. Another good thing about it is that there is less dead air between songs, & less repetition.
