With all these changes in the fulltime staff at BLI (Astra to nights, Harper out, etc), what does everyone think of the part timers? It seems that the station has always been pretty strong with weekenders. With Harper gone and many others taking vacations, the summer book is falling heavily on the part timers -- Jonny Weitz doing mornings this week, Tim Clark doing middaysW in for Gabrielle (Who is filling in for Al Levine on the Scene).

What does everyone think of these guys?

Sounds like you are a friend of the BLI crew, but if you really want to know than I will say that the most talented crop of jocks on Long Island, IMHO, work at the 2 AC stations WALK and WKJY. Slight edge to KJOY for having more personality. Don't get me wrong, Al Levine is talented too. The kids at BLI will gain experience eventually, but they sound like kids. Sorry if my answer dissapoints you.
 
Hey! Monotone hit the right note on this one! Seems since there are no longer eves and overnites to learn the trade...the major dayparts, whether weekdays or "ends" in places like the Island have become the training grounds for "Radio Disney". Now, with the likes of Harper gone...anybody who's been there long enough to know where to find the Mens/Ladies room is prime for PrimeTime! And the East End stations are mostly far worse, albeit a few like LNG etc. This is a Top 20 market...and it sounds way too bush league cause alot of the stations, if not most, rely on interns not only to screw up when loading files for on-air, but being on-air as well, as they are a real cheap source of "have not, but wannabee"! It's pitiful...as most of the touted "research" the Companies point to...when looking for an excuse to voicetrack/automate, is that today's youth don't like to hear disc-jockeys. And we all said that the youth of listnership today are all just dumb kids!!! With today's crop of poor excuses of liner repeaters, Who can blame them?
 
Some of the jocks on WBLI are fine broadcasters, others sound quite young, but isnt that why they are there, to relate to a younger demo? ::)
WBLI's music is on my ten year olds boombox, she likes the younger sounding jocks!
As far as the best part time jocks on Long Island, there are many good ones, to single out one or two stations isnt fair. Im not that familiar with the east end stations, Im not sure what goes on, what I have heard seemed okay. In fact I liked WEHM, and thats about the eastern most station right?

I don't mean to say that all the east enders or part timers are piss poor...but as a general rule, the further east away from the city you go...the poorer it gets! Yes...EHM is okay...but try listening to the others in the cluster! Some of the full timers grate so badly on your nerves as they "screech"! And I might add that there is literally no personality out east except for the likes of LNG and RIV! You have to get to the center of the Island before a station sounds polished! Again, LNG, RIV, EHM the exceptions...and others in some dayparts!

As luck would have it I had to go to Riverhead on a personal matter, and decided to have a listen to the East End stations, yeah some green sounding jocks out there, but thats the beauty of the East end, go, work out the kinks, travel west, work, get better, travel west more and work in the big city!
Funny I cant recall who the part time jocks are on the barnie staiions, most are the full timers doing their extra weekend shift.

Yes! But what you fail to recognize...is that "some" of those "full-timers" you refer to aren't even really full-time! They do weekday afternoon drive slots...and are paid hourly...just for the airshift! That's it!, and nothing more!!! Also, if you ever wondered why... you'll notice that some of these "voices" rarely, if ever, appear on any of their stations spots! Now you know why! Each one of these rarities costs the station an extra dollar or two!!! Can't have that now...can we? Got to make budget to get that big bonus you know! (And some hire part-time paid hourly, only as needed, production staff as well...actually in some cases...minimum wage paid interns). It's no wonder there is no talent pool to draw upon here...and if and when, as you say, they do "go west"...you are left mostly with the low level of personality, but great liner readers/voices we are currently shopping for in Manhattan these days!
