Changes at WGL Fort Wayne

From yes.com, it appears that WGL (The River - 102.9 FM-1250 AM) Fort Wayne has dumped the Dial Global Adult Standards format and gone with a local stable of personalities. They've also modified the music mix into what could best be described as AC Gold, not dissimilar to WDUV in Tampa or WTRV in Grand Rapids.

Here's a sample hour from yes.com:

Cyndi Lauper - Time After Time
Chad & Jeremy - Yesterday's Gone
Commodores - Sail On
Faith Hill - The Way You Love Me
Ray Charles - America the Beautiful
Eddie Rabbitt/Crystal Gayle - You And I
Frank Sinatra - My Way
Steve Lawrence - Go Away Little Girl
Gloria Loring/Carl Anderson - Friends & Lovers
Jon Secada - Just Another Day
Al Wilson - Show & Tell
Basia - Time & Tide
Edward Bear - Close Your Eyes

Bad news for fans of the "real" standards as they will now have to try to get WMRI 860 out of Marion, IN, which is a Music of Your Life affiliate. But good news for AC fans who want a softer alternative to WMEE and WAJI.

In another perhaps related change, 102.9 FM is no longer WWGL but has become WGL-FM.

Yep. Keep the 40's and 50's stuff up front and reach everyone - in the cemetery. BIG bucks, there.

Many stations are now switching to that 60's/70's mix.

If not available in some form now, some big satellite syndicator should move to have that format. Dial Global is on the way, but their slow transition is a way to keep their present core audience (and get Chimp angry). They've already transitioned a few times in this manner.

i heard benny mardones (sp?) song "Into the night" the other day on a stardust affiliate. i admit i was kinda shocked. that's actually a 'harder' soft ac song, if there is such a thing has 'hard soft ac' ::)

Some thirty miles to the east along US 30, Van Wert's WERT, 1220 on the AM dial, is still available. I have been able to tune that station in while in Michigan.
