Changes at WHOM

As of today, Tim Moore is gone. WJBQ's Teddy McKay on mornings now, Sandra on 10a-3p, WJBQ's Meredith Manning VT 3p-7p. Interesting lineup, to be sure.

Tim Moore was the programming and operations guy behind -- and in front of -- WJBQ and WHOM for quite a while. Cumulus is considered by many to be a decent radio company, but here's another example where they screwed up big-time. They never, ever should have let him leave.

If I recall correctly, WJBQ and WHOM were #1 and #2 12+ in the last Portland Arbitron. Is that not good enough? And the conventional wisdom in Portland is that it was Tim Moore who made it happen, not any consultant and not the corporate programming guys.

This is what happens when you let accountants run things: "Ooooh! Nice salary! He's got to go!"

I long for the days when radio was run by radio people instead of bean counters.

Nationwide, they have cut dozens of their top people. The good news for everyone else is, it's going to be easy to compete against these guys. They're draining their own brains.

Not surprised. Tim is a smart guy and a talented one. Cumulus is an awful company that doesn't seem to respect its employees. Seems like simple math.

I will miss listening to him, and I'm sure his stations will miss his leadership.

Who are these MANY who consider Cumulus to ge a good radio company? They are considered by MANY to be the absolute worst radio company to work for. THis is abvsolutely outrageous that Tim Moore has been let go. If I were Saga, I'd grab this guy in a heartbeat and put him in charge over there.

This may be the most insightful, smartest statement I have ever read on this board.

Thanks for forgiving my spelling. This just goes to show that performance DOESN'T matter with Cumulus. Programming both stations. Doing an AM shift on WHOM. And both stations performing magnificently. And you let the guy go?

As far as Saga is concerned, it has been stated on this board many times over that a change in leadership is probably needed there. Who better to take on JBQ and HOM than the guy who knows them inside and out.

Maybe Tim just got burned out and quit? I can't imagine dealing with that kind of workload on top of corporate mandates like having Perez Hilton crammed down his throat at 'JBQ. At least he won't be around to take the rap when the Q's 7p-Mid numbers tank.

Now it seems that the John Tesh show is gone as well. Maybe Cumulus is planning a syndicated show for ACs at night? WWLI in Providence still hasn't put on anything to replace their longtime night host, who was let go last year.

there is a banner ad on the website for a teddy and sandra in the mornings. So maybe john tesh is the new mid day show, and meredith in the afternoon. Just music the rest of the time ?

Is Billy Bush on in Portland yet? I noticed Cumulus put him on 92 Moose in Augusta, displacing Matt James. Cumulus' WBZN/Z 107.3 still carries Chuck Foster at night.....but for how long?

Yes, Billy Bush is on Coast 93.1. Last night there was someone named "Mike Adams" on WHOM... It wasn't either one from Boston.

When was Matt James on? The only change on the MOOSE website recently is the addition of Adam Bomb & Perez Hilton.

The WHOM website has a banner ad for Sandra and Teddy in the morning, but separate shifts (Teddy 5-10am, Sandra 10am-3pm) listed in the personalities section. More sterling attention to detail from Cumulus. I feel bad for the staff there--it's only gonna get worse.

I got my night time shows mixed up, 92 Moose replaced Matt James with Perez Hilton, not Billy Bush.

It looks like this is the WHOM Line Up...

5:30 - 10am ... Teddy McKay & Sandra Harris
10am - 3pm ... John Tesh
3 - 7pm ... Merideth Manning
7pm - Midnight ... Mike Adams

So Tesh moves up to middays. Even though I'm disappointed at the trend to limit live local DJs, I actually like Tesh. His info is interesting and his delivery is good. But I'm not sure about putting him on in middays when people are working and not paying much attention. He's good for nights.

So are Manning and Adams live or voice-tracked? Is the morning show the only live show? I'm surprised they have a local voice in the evening now.

I have a friend who works weekends for a Cumulus AC station in a medium market in the South. The PD does mornings, there's a midday woman and an afternoon guy. And that's it. A few months ago Cumulus ordered they get rid of the evening guy, the overnight guy and the morning sidekick/newscaster. But the PD refuses to run Tesh or Deliliah. He just runs the automation after 7pm. There still are parttimers in some shifts on weekends, including my friend.
