IF that is ever approved, it'll be interesting to see what channel WUOA will map to. You have to imagine WBRC is going to want to keep mapping (virtually) to channel 6.1, 6.2, etc.

Hmm, I wonder what takes priority - channel mappings or the physical channel number? I never thought about that conundrum before. Unmapped channels on my Sony start at .3, so it could be conceivable for WBRC to map to 6.1 and WUOA to still be accessable as 6.3.

WUOA would probably map to 7.1; I think they have a low power outlet on channel 7 in Tuscaloosa that's the "main channel".

poledo, you think WBRC is going to donate their old antenna? That would certainly be an interesting situation since WUOA is technically another commercial station... Although I doubt America One is much of a competitor to Fox. I've seen their 10pm newscast a few times on skip out here in MS and it's about the same level as our small-beans channels: not real slick at all.

WBRC's tower does or did host WBIQ. I can't remember if they kicked WBIQ off to make room for their own digital antenna; if they did, they can just keep the two antennas in the same spot.

I was out doing some residential work on old corn road yesterday in your neck of the woods travis, i tuned in for a little while. Not a bad signal...how much did it cost you to rig up something like that?

I wasn't suggesting that WRBC donate their antenna to WUOA but instead donate it to the University of Alabama for a nice tax write off and some good public publicity. UofA would simply use the antenna for WUOA. I assume they don't plan to sell WUOA anytime soon, so they are probably just trying to make it self supporting right now. Not much competition for Fox.
Down here in Pensacola/Mobile, WALA donated (or loaned) their old short tower to APTV and WEAR does voiceovers for commercials (PSAs) on WSRE and provides familiar faces for pledge drives. WSRE-DT's antenna is on WEAR's new tower, I don't know if that was donated or not. I just assumed that it's common for commercial stations help out college owned stations all over the country.

Why wouldn't WUOA-DT map to 23.1? Is there another channel 23 in the area?

I was thinking that they might do that because they ID as WVUA, which is their -CA station on channel 7 in Tuscaloosa. But now I see that WVUA has a CP for a low power digital channel on 14 which will greatly increase their coverage in that area. So I guess they will map as 23.1.
