Changes at WkLU

Hey Robbie (Radioho), can you tell your "Inside Source" from Fort Wayne to call us? We're trying to reach him.

If Old Skool really is Russ, and I think we know it obviously is, let me just end this by saying this is getting really pathetic. For the 1,000,000th time, I AM NOT RADIO HO. If you are this passionate about me, then be a man and call. You have my number. Tragically I have to repeat it again, that I am not hiding behind a screen name.

If not Russ, then please disregard ;D

So, WKLU tucks it's tail between it's legs, changes the format to moldy-oldies, and NOW Old Skull comes out of the shadows - coincidence?

I hope we're not going to be treated to another six months of PRAISE from Old Skull about how great ownership or management is for the NEW Oldies 101.9 - 101.9!"

You failed Russ! Now quit picking on your former jocks, whom, if I remember correctly, along with MArk Clark, Ritz and Baker (fulltime) - gave you the highest ratings you can ever HOPE to have again - the coveted 4.8 - where have those ratings gone since that original crew left? Have you thought maybe MANAGEMENT is your problem?

The first person I'd blame is the intellectual mind that came up with the slam-dunk promotion - ON-AIR MARATHON!

Good luck with the land of obscurity (Oldies) and enjoy that constant 2.1-2.6.

Clark, Ritz, and Baker deserved to work. At least WKLU is a better place to work than the local gas station or fast food place.

Why did Clark leave anyway?

I was told he left due to his disagreement about 'questionable billing practices' at the station.

If you advertise with KLU - READ YOUR STATEMENT carefully each month!

That's all I'm sayin' 8)

It just doesn't seem to me like much has changed. Seems like they are still playin the same songs but they dropped the 80s and 90s songs. Haven't heard any Elvis yet. Or Buddy Holly or Bill Haley. When 1045 had them they played it all! So is this goin to be real Oldies or just a warped version? And will there still be Top 10s?

I never heard any 90's songs on WKLU's previous format, but they've definitely dropped the 80's stuff. I think they've kept the 70's and added some 60's stuff.

Elvis was probably more of a 50's artist. ;)

Long time reader of the board, 1st time poster.

I am part of the 'target' audience that KLU is trying to get to, and I have to say that I do love the format!! Back in the early 90's I lived in Ft Wayne when Majic 95.1 was oldies (Studio Mike Kendell, MajicMan Mark mornings and Trina Neely from 7p-Mid. That's the crew they need to hire!!!). I have craved a station like this for 18 years since I moved back to Indy. While 107.9 has integrated more oldies over the past few months, there is still way too much of the music that I don't like, not to mention they are burning me out big time on the disco stuff. B105.7 is really good, but is too mellow sometimes. Makes me sleepy at work. KLU is just the right mix for women my age range...their target audience. Good move Russ!

you are partly correct.elvis was in the 50`s, 60`s and even had at least one song in the early 70`s.

personally it is the 50`s songs of elvis that I like to listen to.

Amazing how with EVERY WKLU thread on this board there are "NEW" screen names with only 1 or 2 posts, all concerning their undying LOVE for WKLU?? And all with the same copy points - that sound JUST LIKE A PRESS RELEASE! Then you never see these screen names again??

C'mon Russ, how many screen names do they allow you to use?

::) Sorry 'ho. I'm a real listener, not Russ, one of his cronies or even in the music business. As I stated, long time reader of the board. Never really had anything to say until now, so I didn't post. I am even a personal friend of a radio personality on The Track. He is on this board and can vouch for me if he so desires.

I never professed 'undying love for KLU'. I listened to them for about a year when they first came on the air, then the music was too much and I stopped listening. I went back to listening to B105.7 and then The Track. Now, I'm back listening to KLU.

Hmmm...press release? Maybe I'm in the wrong field of work. 8)

Correct me if Im wrong but I think Ho was referring to the article in the paper this morning about the station and how they were targeting women? With that article coming out today and that post a few hours later I can see why people would be suspicious. Especially given some of the stations other supposed liberties with the truth the past few months. I say Ho and Russ just stop this board bickering, act like men (or women) and debate it out on the air. How about it Russ, Ho? An hour of you two guys on the air discussing radio philosophies?

I see your point and I apologize for the suspicions. I don't take the paper but I do read the posts on indianaairwaves.net. That's where I learned about the 'target audience of women' that are my age. Anyway, that said, I do like the change in format and hope it continues.

Lets go to the wayback machine for a second...

Wasn't 101.9 a rock "hybrid", then oldies...under Bruce Quinn!

Then Russ Oasis buys 101.9, makes some substancial upgrades (kudos to Russ), only to program a classic rock hybrid, only to go to oldies!

"The more things change..the more they stay the same"

wklu was at its best musically under quinns hybrid classic rock era.under russ oassis it started as a old hits station mostly then evolved into classic rock station. good but not as good as when it was under quinn.now the oldies format is a big letdown. just like it was a letdown when oassis first took over wklu.
