Changes at WLNE 6

I was watching ABC 6 at 4pm and heard them say Paul Mueller will be doing mornings along with Doreen Scanlon and Jim Corbin doing weather. What has happened to Steve Cascione? Is he on the move? Is he still with the station?

I don't know about that stuff... BUT... I do know that their audio sounds like crap on their newscasts. I don't know what the problem is, but it sounds like their audio mixer is about to give out. It's as if they are digitizing their audio and it's being compressed to much or something. It just doesn't sound right. You can hear a warble when they talk. The other day the sound actually gave out during the Weather segment.

What shift will Steve be working? And will he continue to anchor? I'm surprised they moved him off Good Morning Providence so quickly as they brought him over from WPRI 12 when they relaunched the morning show.

Well, WLNE is obviously experimenting a bit with the anchor assignments. They have the luxury this year of having two ratings periods very close together. So, in March, they tried Steve Cascione as the morning anchor. Now, in May, they're trying Paul Mueller. After the ratings period, they will probably evaluate the results.

That being said, it does appear that Steve didn't draw a huge number of additional viewers in March. WLNE has always been a revolving door for anchor teams. :D

Well, we have a chief met here in Phoenix who also plays anchorman on the 6:30pm newscast. It's strange to see him reading the news and, then, stand up to do the weather forecast. Also, at WCMH in Columbus and KOMO in Seattle, the weekend am weather forecasters also co-anchor the newscast.

IIRC, this used to be a common practice back in the 70's when they first hired female weather anchors. The female weather anchor might read lifestyle stores, do the trivia contest, and forecast the weather (but never the "hard" news).
